Such a beautiful album, it’s been one of my favourites since the first time i heard it. Despite how much it ranges going from his hauntingly beautiful falsetto in Corpus Christi Carol to the aggressive guitar solo in Forget Her, it’s very cohesive and every song serves its purpose well. Each one is a masterpiece in its own right. My only regret for this album is that it’s his only studio release, rest in peace Jeff Buckley.
This album certainly serves its purpose well. It solid disco music as it’s very easy to dance to and its repetitive nature makes it predictable and reliable which is appreciated, but that also means that it has a tendency to drag if you’re just sitting down and listening to it. I’m not sure it’s something I’d listen to regularly, but I can appreciate it for what it is.
What an absolute classic of an album. With hits like One Way Or Another, which is probably my favourite Blondie song, it’s no wonder it’s so good. All the songs feel very cohesive and like they belong together, but there’s still enough variation to keep interest. While some songs like Hanging On The Telephone did feel like they dragged a little it wasn’t enough to really bring down my enjoyment of the album. Gotta love Blondie!
I feel like i have a lot to say but also very little to say about this album. I liked it, it was very enjoyable, but i feel like it didn’t really speak to me? I’m not sure how to describe it other than it lacked that spark that takes an album from good to great. Which isn’t to say it’s not a great album, i can recognize that it objectively is, it just wasn’t for me. However, there were still some standouts to me. Synchronicity I, King Of Pain, and Murder By Numbers were some of my favourite tracks off the album, especially Synchronicity I. Synchronicity I felt very unique and worked incredibly well as an introduction to the album, and King Of Pain and Murder By Numbers while tracks that didn’t necessarily surprise me were just nice to listen to. Mother is probably my least favourite as while I wouldn’t skip it nor did I dislike it, I would not listen to it outside of the album. Of course I can’t neglect to mention the classic that is Every Breath You Take. I swear I always forget how creepy that song is, definitely a stalker anthem.

Honestly this album was not what I was expecting when I first put it on, but I did like it. I enjoyed how it explored different areas of its genre, and it allowed certain tracks to really stand out to me. One of those was the very pop-punky Super Unison. While everything else either tended to stay in the same area of the genre or at least had another track like it, I believe Super Unison was completely unique in its sound. I also liked the contrast between the songs that was created by the order they’re played it, like going from the up-beat thrashy Human Interest to the more mellow instrumental-only Sinews. Sinews and Sinews (Original Version) reminded me of the closing track on Pearl Jam’s Ten, with their mellow instrumentals and also the sheer length of the songs, with both version of Sinews being over nine minutes long. All in all I really enjoyed this album, but I feel as if it’s one I’ll have to listen to fully solidify my stance on it.
Favourite track - Human Interest
I forgot how insanely catchy this album is. The fact that I was able to sing along in some capacity to every single track came as a shock, but in retrospect is completely unsurprising given how often I used to listen to it. Catchy lyrics and an easy to listen to sound are two of the things that Taylor does very well. I do feel as if it generally lacks the depth I often look for in the music I listen to, but I’m willing to overlook it due to how /fun/ it all is. However, due to how catchy the lyrics are they did have a tendency to start to grate on me a little bit towards the end of each track, and while I was generally able to overlook how corny they are, in certain tracks such as Bad Blood it was particularly apparent. Overall, while I will not pretend this album is some sort of lyrical or musical masterpiece, it’s very good at being what it is: a fun collection of catchy pop music.
Favourite track: I Wish You Would
I had to take two listens to really form an opinion on this album, but that may be partially due to the fact that my first listen was while I was on the loud-ass work bus. This certainly isn’t my favourite album by The Beatles, but it’s still great. Taxman is a fun intro and does well at introducing the sound they’re going for in this album. The switch in tone between the first and second track is interesting, but it doesn’t lose cohesion. Eleanor Rigby is a classic that cannot be overlooked, however they’re all arguably classics in their own right, and it seems to set a more mellow tone for the rest of the album, until Doctor Robert, then returns afterwards. Tomorrow Never Knows is a great closing track and I love the sort of “wild” use of instrumentals like the violin that they go with at certain points, it feels like a build up of everything else in the album, which is really emphasized by their repetition of “of the beginning” at the end of the track. While I do wish the album was slightly longer, I do agree with the sentiment that it would grow repetitive if it was extended by much longer.
Favourite track: She Said She Said
Franz Kafka would be horrified to know a group of bugs could make such good music as his biggest fear is becoming a cockroach
Dust - Screaming Trees
This album is exactly what I think of when I think of dad rock. It’s perfect for hanging out in the garage passing your dad various tools as he works on the car or sitting on the back deck watching as he grills steaks on the barbecue. It’s something I could listen to at almost occasion, as it’s heavy enough to fit into my regular rock music rotation, but not too heavy that I couldn’t listen to it with company. It’s a very pleasant album, and I mean this in the best of ways.
Favourite track(s): Halo of Ashes, Make My Mind
Not really the sound I think of when I think of trees screaming but it was pretty cool regardless
