Opus Dei
Laibach
[3.5/5] Final impression: Experimental, industrial, and rock-ish in a way that works for me. Interesting album overall, each track has its own tone and genres it leans towards, but theres a strong cohesion with the album's throughline. I like it. Might be a hard casual listen but i could see it hitting in the right mood.
Listened to the 2024 remaster [https://laibach.bandcamp.com/album/opus-dei-remastered-deluxe-edition] and the leftover tracks on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/3706Kd7JanLR1mzDYrEiqm].
Leben heißt Leben (Opus Dei) - Some sick riffs, im into the instrumentals here. Not sure i would listen to this casually though. The last 30 seconds or so are fantastic.
Geburt einer Nation (One Vision) - The tone of the vocals feels like i should not be bopping but i am. Great transition from the previous track.
Leben-Tod - Weakest track so far but i don't dislike it.
F.I.A.T. (Let It Be) - A bit too relevant to the current political climate.
Opus Dei (Life Is Life) - Unfortunately not that into this one even though i can tell its a highlight of this album.
Trans-national - Big into this one. Can't tell if that means i have good taste or terrible taste.
How the West Was Won - Let's drink love and sing :] unfortunately aside from the lyrics i didn't care for this one much.
The Great Seal - Least favourite track so far. Feels reasonably fitting from an audio-narrative perspective.
Herz-Felde - Fitting, and establishes a tone really well. I like it. Kind of experimental in the same way as Hana, but the instrumentals remind me of ACC? I like it.
Jägerspiel - Im getting a sense that the second half of this album is more on the experimental side than the first half. This track is not as strong as the one just before it. Unfortunate for me since its the longest track.
Koza (Skin) - See above, but this one is slightly better. The uncomfortable asmr is working in its favor.
Krst (Baptism) - Not as good of a ending track as The Great Seal. Works well with the others of the bottom set of four.
Overall notes: Similar in experience as listening to The Wall to me - tells a story, and with tracks that lend themselves to be listened to in order. Vaguely similar to what i imagine would be the result between The Wall and Neyslutrans.

Thriller
Michael Jackson
[4.5/5] Final impression: It's the best-selling album of all time for a reason.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/2ANVost0y2y52ema1E9xAZ].
Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' - I just know this is going to be an album of no misses. Solid start.
Baby Be Mine - Fantastic song. No notes.
That Girl Is Mine - Probably the weakest, or the least to my tastes, of this album. Which is a shame, cause I like Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, but this ones too syrupy for me.
Thriller - How do you summarize a song as culturally influential as this. I mean, its perfect?
*Beat It - me when I'm about to beat Off
Billie Jean - Seared into my brain because of eternal reruns of that one Simpson's episode. Aside from that, its a fantastic song. Love the instrumentals towards the end.
Human Nature - Not as much my taste, but the vocals are solid (as expected). Kind of irresistible the longer it goes on.
P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) - The instrumentals kick ass here.
The Lady in My Life - Good, not great.
Overall notes: I mean, there's a reason they had to raffle off tickets to his funeral. A lot of great standouts here, but some tracks that I just don't have strong affinity for.

Hounds Of Love
Kate Bush
[4.25/5] Final impression: Experimental, artsy-rock with powerful vocals that conveys an overall narrative. Not much to dislike here. Unique sound at times and consistent quality. Only shame is that the first and second half of the album are so different, they almost deserve to each be their own albums. Definitely stronger in its second half for me.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/5BWl0bB1q0TqyFmkBEupZy].
Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) - Good instrumentals, god-tier vocals. She has a great voice. I get why this song is as well-regarded as it is.
Hounds Of Love - Not especially notable to me aside from being the titular track but I still liked it. I enjoyed the opening.
The Big Sky - Catchy tune and beat, hard not to get into it.
*Mother Stands For Comfort - Tonally so different from the rest of this album, it demanded my attention. The instrumentals here are sick. The discordance, distant crashing, and pained vocals go so strong with the song title and concept. The combo of the synths with piano is genius. Absolutely fantastic.
Cloudbusting - Similar to The Big Sky in that she draws you in with her vocals, catchy.
And Dream Of Sheep - Slower than what I gravitate to naturally, but pleasant nonetheless.
Under Ice - Good track, nothing of note. Serves as a good transition between what I would describe as the first half of the album and the second more experimental side of the album.
Waking The Witch - Second song in this album to demand my attention. A lot more experimental than I expected for this album. Probably tied with Running Up That Hill for second favourite track although I'm guessing this ones a harder listen for most.
Watching You Without Me - Has an interesting but alluring sound. I like it.
Jig Of Life - Goes well with the previous track. Powerful vocals and a great instrumental. I quite like this one, definitely a stand-out.
Hello Earth - Main chorus is fantastic. Rest of the track is also good.
The Morning Fog - Somewhat weaker track, but rounds out the album well.
Overall notes: Has more of an experimental and rock twinge from what I expected going in. A lot more of a narrative/concept album than I thought it would be from looking at it. Aged well.

Deep Purple In Rock
Deep Purple
[2.75/5] Final impression: If the entire album was Child in Time, probably a 3. The instrumentals are good, but most of the tracks sound the same, and the vocals can be grating at times.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/3llL1qaL2RvtyQAthAuRFS].
Speed King - The interlude in my right ear halfway through went hard.
Bloodsucker - Pardon, what did he say on that first line. Guitar riff interlude went kind of hard at least.
*Child in Time - This is the track I've liked most so far, and yet it still manages to be boring for most of the first half. Easily the most notable and most engaging track of the album so far.
Flight of the Rat - Nothing all that notable. Possibly the weakest track on the album.
Into the Fire - It's fine.
Living Wreck - Stronger than the last two tracks put together. It's good.
Hard Lovin' Man - The in-your-face organs make this one of the most unique tracks here. It earns points for that alone. Solid finale.
Overall notes: I fear I could listen to almost any track on this album 7 times in a row and it would be more or less equivalent to listening to the actual 7 tracks that make up this album - except Child in Time, which is carrying the entire rest of the album on its small, child-sized shoulders.

Surrealistic Pillow
Jefferson Airplane
[3.25/5] Final impressions: Grace Slick just has such a great voice. Unfortunately, she is kind of carrying this album. Generally good throughout, but the primary stand outs are the tracks Slick does vocals on.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/6lPb7Eoon6QPbscWbMsk6a].
She Has Funny Cars - The vocals are just fantastic here. Aside from that, nothing too crazy.
Somebody to Love - Stronger than the previous track, a fun listen. The standalone instrumentals are great as well.
My Best Friend - Not my favorite track out of whats on here. Just okay. Gets somewhat better with the tempo shift. I liked the ending.
Today - Good track, creates a tone masterfully.
Comin' Back To Me - Amazing instrumentals paired with amazing vocals, absolutely nothing to complain about here. Really like this one.
3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds - A fun ride. A joy to listen to.
D. C. B. A.-25 - Great beat, great vocals.
How Do You Feel - Good beat, but I don't love this one. A bit too syrupy.
Embryonic Journey - Great instrumentals. It's good.
*White Rabbit - Is, and has always been, one of my favorite songs of all time. Fantastic. Stays just as good as I remember.
Plastic Fantastic Lover - Kind of fun. Not necessarily similar to the rest of this album, which isn't a bad thing.
Overall notes: Just generally good throughout. Doesn't really have any low points.

Pornography
The Cure
[2.75/5] Final impressions: Perfect if the vibe you're looking for is gothic, dark rock. Has a fun sound to it, but no big stand-outs to me. The tracks aren't different enough to really hold my attention.
Listened to the 2005 remaster on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/0qJ30kPyjNkKjtV5h0JpHm].
*One Hundred Years - Fun vibe. Has an interesting, gloomy spookiness while staying upbeat. The instrumentals are good. Easiest track to vibe to here.
A Short Term Effect - Not as good as the previous track, but I still like it.
The Hanging Garden - Most interesting track so far. I like this one.
Siamese Twins - Great sound. Almost mesmerizing in its beat. About 3/4 through, starting to greatly lose its traction to me.
The Figurehead - Alright.
A Strange Day - A lot better than the past few minutes for me. Re-inspiring some interest in what I'm listening to.
Cold - Enticing darkness to it. Most distinct track on the album so far. Feels like I'm on a horse carriage in the dead of night on the way to an abandoned castle up the hill during a snowstorm in winter.
Pornography - One of the better tracks on this album. Similar vibes to Cold, but I didn't like it as much. Most experimental track of the album, and kind of fitting as a final track - turns a lot of the horror/desolate elements of the album on its head by almost calling to action "Find a cure".
Overall notes: Similar problem with the Deep Purple album from before, all the tracks start to sound the same about halfway through. I generally like the sound, so it works out alright.

All Hail the Queen
Queen Latifah
[2.5/5] Final impressions: Everything here is alright. Some minor stand-outs to me. Nothing especially bad, just not my typical genre. Less repetitive than either of the previous albums, but still somewhat repetitive.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/6Agl4DVuihiDPuxuN1L8Jv].
Dance for Me - Solid beat, but nothing else stood out to me.
Mama Gave Birth to the Soul Children - What an opening. This one's great. Though the kid sounds are driving me insane in a bad way.
Come into My House - Similar to the first track, nice beat but nothing else of note.
Latifah's Law - Favorite track so far.
Wrath of My Madness - A good combo between variety and catchy beat. I like this one.
*The Pros - Best track yet. Similar to the last track in terms of variety, but I like the sound of this one more.
Ladies First - It's fine. Not as strong as the previous few tracks, but stronger than the album openers.
A King and Queen Creation - Nothing of note.
Queen of Royal Badness - Starting to really lose the variety it gained. It's fine.
Evil that Men Do - Not bad. Has a lyrical message that holds up relatively well.
Princess of the Possee - I like the vocals on this one.
Inside Out - Not great as a finale track in my opinion. Otherwise fine.
Overall notes: Not my usual genre, but I liked some of the tracks here. At least it wasn't a collection of the same exact track like the last two albums have been.

Bryter Layter
Nick Drake
[3.00/5] Final impressions: This album ranges from feeling like it should be played when you're alone in the forest in summer to feeling like its a backing track in a coffee shop while you sip a warm drink. Very singer songwriter and folky, cold and sad, but with solid instrumentals and a decent variety in sound. Started to lose me in the second half.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/0B2E1w5T7PEbZIctZnnt9K].
Introduction - Amazing instrumentals.
*Hazey Jane II - Fun listen. The cadence of the lyrics scratches my brain in a good way.
At The Chime Of A City Clock - Liking the sax. Smooth sound.
One Of These Things First - Narrative and nostalgic. Piano forward.
Hazey Jane I - I'm into Hazey Jane I being after Hazey Jane II. Unfortunately, Hazey Jane II is a lot better than this one.
Bryter Layter - Pleasant sound, but not dynamic enough to hold my attention. For being the titular track, fairly disappointing.
Fly - This one is rough.
Poor Boy - Loving the piano in this one. Great instrumentals. Would be as good as Hazey Jane II, but I'm not into the backing vocals.
Northern Sky - Just ok.
Sunday - Back to the flute I see. Solid.
Overall notes: Generally distant and melancholy, folky and instrumental. Works for me, but probably not something I would think to listen to often. Wish there was just a bit more variety, but at least its not nearly as monotonous as some of the albums I've rated lower. At least theres some variety in instruments.

The Rise & Fall
Madness
[4.25/5] Final impression: Lots of fantastic tracks, and even the tracks I don't like as much are still a fun listen.
Listened to on Youtube [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPjcc9Vi-9s&list=PLwTsihu-EGpB-o1DIUfRUq0O2b1VSinBY].
Rise and Fall - The instrumentals are interesting. I kind of like it.
Tomorrow's (Just Another Day) - A solid beat and catchy - I really like it. The instrumentals are good as well.
Blue Skinned Beast - The vocals on here are rough. Instrumentals aren't too bad though.
Primrose Hill - I like the vocals on this one. Probably my second favorite track so far.
Mr Speaker (Gets The Word) - Sick as fuck instrumentals. Very distinct from the other tracks in a great way.
Sunday Morning - Sick instrumentals again. Lyrics kind of repetitive, but it almost works with the concept of the song.
Our House - Easy to like. Great instrumentals and great vocals.
Tiptoes - Just fun. The instrumental descent after "he could really fly" goes so hard.
New Delhi - Combined with the album cover I'd consider this a red flag.
That Face - Instrumentals are good, but one of the weaker tracks here.
Calling Cards - Vaguely feels like I'm in the desert heat playing poker in the local saloon, but not overtly.
*Are You Coming (With Me) - Once again, sick instrumentals. Great vocals too. I can't decide if this one is better than Mr Speaker or not.
Madness (Is All In The Mind) - I like the vocals here.
Overall notes: Not sure if this one is getting bonus points for being the most interesting album out of the last 3 I've listened to, but I like almost all the tracks on this. And each track is distinct, which is cool. Great instrumentals, mixed on the vocals but generally they're good.

Hunky Dory
David Bowie
[3.75/5] Final impression: I think Bowie just doesn't mesh with me which is unfortunate because his voice and the instrumentals are killer. Something about it just doesn't generally hit for me, but when it hits it HITS.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/6fQElzBNTiEMGdIeY0hy5l].
Changes - A good beat. Catchy. Second best track on here.
Oh! You Pretty Things - Not that into this one, but the instrumentals are interesting in a good way. I do love a good story.
Eight Line Poem - Fantastic vocals, I just don't really vibe with the track overall.
Life on Mars? - Best track so far. Fun lyrics.
Kooks - Don't know that I like this one. Kind of catchy though. Sounds like a song I should like, if I'm honest. The longer I let it stew, the more this one grows on me.
Quicksand - Not that notable to me, but its fine.
Fill Your Heart - His voice is crazy here. I don't hate it. The instrumentals here are kind of sick.
Andy Warhol - Ok now we're talking. Digging the vibe of this one. The lyrics here are scratching the brain just right. The instrumentals are just fantastic.
Song for Bob Dylan - I like this one alright.
*Queen Bitch - This one hits.
The Bewlay Brothers - I like this one.
Overall notes: Some of the songs on here go kind of hard, but when they don't go hard they aren't notable to me at all. Special shout out to Changes, Life on Mars, Kooks, Andy Warhol, and Queen Bitch.

I See A Darkness
Bonnie "Prince" Billy
[2.5/5] Final impression: Sad and depressing type beat. Holds up fairly well, if thats the vibe you're looking for. Nothing too great.
Listened to on Youtube [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78E0Gu3U1DI&list=OLAK5uy_m_OqnkSt68qy9R7vx7BkUnZPI4Z1zp3XI].
A Minor Place - Feels like this album might have aged well in terms of sound and tone.
Nomadic Revery (All Around) - Not as good at the opening track. A bit too monotonous. I take it back the second half is making up for it. The instrumentals are pretty good.
I See A Darkness - Subtle, slow, dark. Interesting. At times, barely more than a whisper.
*Another Day Full Of Dread - Strongest track so far. Good cadence and beat to it. The interlude is sick.
Death To Everyone - The instrumentals are kinda cool. I like this one. Probably second strongest track.
Knockturne - This one's the roughest yet. We're at the saddest hour it seems.
Madeleine-Mary - First song that doesn't feel depressing to listen to but the vocal style in it drives me up a wall. The instrumentals are solid but the vocals make it unlistenable.
Song For The New Breed - Back to the standard droning sadness that defines this album. Starting to really wear.
Today I Was An Evil One - Really don't like this one. Leaning more country, which I wasn't expecting for this album.
Black - Generally fine.
Raining In Darling - Not into this one.
Overall notes: Man 1001 albums is not a list for someone who doesn't like folk and singer-songwriter. Really slow, melancholic, and sad which isn't the type of music I go for.

The Low End Theory
A Tribe Called Quest
[3.00/5] Final impression: Hip-hop with a lot of great tracks, and a jazz twist throughout. Wish there was a little more variety.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/1p12OAWwudgMqfMzjMvl2a].
Excursions - Referencing a "pager" instantly dates this album. Good opening track though.
Buggin' Out - Nike brand drop streak: 2. Really like the vocals on this one. Weaker instrumentals compared to the opening track.
Rap Promoter - Weakest track so far. Just when I thought this album might be getting repetitive, this track changes things up a bit and redeems things.
*Butter - Sick opening instrumentals. Really like the backing track here. Wish the vocals and lyrics were stronger because I'm vibing really strongly with that instrumental. Chorus is bringing it back.
Verses from the Abstract (feat. Vinia Mojica & Ron Carter) - Lyrically the weakest track so far. Track is not great overall.
Show Business (feat. Diamond D, Lord Jamar & Sadat X) - Just alright.
Vibes and Stuff - Liked the opening instrumental.
Infamous Date Rape - Kind of feel like I'm in health class being taught no means no.
Check the Rhime - Tracks starting to get a bit too similar. Still solid, but they're losing me.
Everything Is Fair - Slightly better than the previous track, more interesting.
Jazz (We've Got) - Liking the backing track here again. Similar to Butter. Catchy, good beat.
Skypager - Good.
What? - Not really vibing with this one.
Scenario (feat. Busta Rhymes, Dinco D & Charlie Brown) - LP Mix - Just fine.
Overall notes: There's a lot of references to the 90s here and because of that it doesn't age great. But the tracks are solid so if you close your eyes and time travel back to the 90s then it's great, and timely. Clearly historically significant, and the lyrics hold up pretty well. Everything is good here, but only a few standouts.

Arrival
ABBA
[3.00/5] Final impression: Upbeat, fun, music that begs to be danced to. Lyrics are cheesy and saccharine in a way I didn't like. Some really rough tracks on here as well.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/1V6a99EbTTIegOhWoPxYI9].
When I Kissed The Teacher - Woah, you should not be doing that. I can't condone dancing to that, even if the beat's right.
Dancing Queen - Can I be honest with you, here in the 1001albumsgenerator review section. I think this track is good, not lifechanging. But I get why people love it. I think I might have latent spite over how many times I've heard it.
My Love, My Life - Feels like I just accidentally stepped into a completely different album. This is a lot less my vibe than the last two. At almost 4 minutes, really overstayed its welcome.
Dum Dum Diddle - This is on the verge of being good but isn't hitting that bar for some reason.
Knowing Me, Knowing You - This one is rough. I guess it's better than My Love, My Life.
Money, Money, Money - Kind of into the instrumental here. Sounds like someone took "Money" from Cabaret and made it weird, during Halloween. I'm not *not* into it?
That's Me - Cheesy and just ok. The instrumentals get interesting occasionally.
Why Did It Have To Be Me? - This one's not good.
Tiger - Tracks starting to sound the same.
Arrival - Out of left field compared to the tone of the rest of the album. Don't like this one at all. At least it's variety.
*Fernando - Nice vocals, nice lyrics. Fun listen.
Happy Hawaii - Interesting. Works well as a final track.
Overall notes: Nothing super great here. Sometimes the instrumentals of the tracks are interesting. Lyrically, really bland.

Bone Machine
Tom Waits
[1.5/5] Final impression: If Tom Waits could get a different person to do vocals, these tracks wouldn't be bad. Unfortunately, I can't stand his voice. Sometimes his voice works, but most of the time it doesn't. Instrumentals are generally solid, but sometimes weak.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/4VNqy9FUAFCvwE6XqrtlOn].
The Earth Died Screaming - I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this. Not sure if I like it or hate it. The instrumentals are fine, but if the vocals are the same throughout I will not survive. Sick instrumental at the ending though.
Dirt In The Ground - The vocals are just so strange. Sounds like he just got done with 25 packs and then walking into the recording studio.
Such A Scream - The more upbeat energy of this track works better with Tom Waits' voice. Instrumentals are good.
All Stripped Down - His high vocals are AWFUL. The low vocals have an interesting grit and sinisterness to them that actually kind of works. But wow.
Who Are You - Not sure if its Stockholm Syndrome, but his voice doesn't sound that bad here. Kind of works.
The Ocean Doesn't Want Me - Slam poetry night. Interesting.
Jesus Gonna Be Here - It's decent. Do you think that cough at the end cleared out his throat enough for the rest of the tracks to be listenable?
A Little Rain - Just okay.
In The Colosseum - This one's interesting. Kind of like it. Second favorite track so far.
Goin' Out West - Eh. Fine, I guess.
Murder In The Red Barn - His voice works in this one.
*Black Wings - This one's good.
Whistle Down The Wind - Don't like this one. Sounds like I'm at church.
I Don't Wanna Grow Up - Good. Probably liked Black Wings just a little better, but this one's classic.
Let Me Get Up On It - Rough.
That Feel - Also not good.
Overall notes: Melancholy and desolation, carried by a gritty, rough voice. Unique, at least.

Paranoid
Black Sabbath
[4.5/5] Final impression:
War Pigs / Luke's Wall - Fantastic.
*Paranoid - Wait is this album all bangers.
Planet Caravan - Not as strong as the two opening tracks, but great instrumentals.
Iron Man - Fantastic.
Electric Funeral - Also fantastic. Instrumentals are sick.
Hand of Doom - All bangers so far. Probably my least favorite track so far, but still good.
Rat Salad - Awesome.
Jack the Stripper / Fairies Wear Boots - Good beat.
Overall notes: Wait, am I a Black Sabbath fan?

Garbage
Garbage
[3.00/5] Final impression: Good overall, but nothing great here. Generic sound overall, and the lyrics are really boring. Vocals range from solid to annoying.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/5oBySdXAQniFqWOgxPWQSs].
Supervixen - Catchy, good beat.
*Queer - Sick instrumentals. Better than the first track.
Only Happens When It Rains - Good, but not great. Lyrics are kind of weak.
As Heaven Is Wide - Again, good but not great. Vocalist sounds like she's trying to sing low just to sound cool, and it's taking away from the track.
Not My Idea - You guys already did doo-doo-do as a lyric, you can't get away with doing it again.
A Stroke Of Luck - Just okay. Better than the last two tracks. Instrumentals have some interesting moments.
Vow - Strongest track since Queer. Not as good as that one though.
Stupid Girl - This one's pretty sick.
Dog New Tricks - Just alright.
My Lover's Box - Good instrumentals. Just okay otherwise.
Fix Me Now - The guitar is good, but it would be better without her vocals.
Milk - One of the weakest tracks of the album to round it out, I guess.
Overall notes: They lured me in with Queer and then everything started to go downhill. Generally liked it, but most of the tracks were just "good" and not amazing. Queer and Stupid Girl are single handedly carrying this album up.

Blue
Joni Mitchell
[2.25/5] Final impression: Too low-down singer-songwriter for me. Short and sweet, didn't overstay its welcome.
Listened to on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/album/1vz94WpXDVYIEGja8cjFNa].
*All I Want - Her voice is absoluetly lovely, but this is not my kind of genre.
My Old Man - First track was stronger. Again, her voice is amazing.
Little Green - Tracks are mostly the same so nothing new to say.
Carey - Least favorite track so far.
Blue - Definitely a stand-out as the titular track. Still not my favorite.
California - Not biased but this one was pretty good.
This Flight Tonight - Fun listen, but her voice sounds kind of rough at times here.
River - Christmas? Is that you? Are you in the room with us right now?
A Case of You - Good not great. The longer it goes on the more I dislike it.
The Last Time I Saw Richard - Alright.
Overall notes: She has a nice voice, but I just don't see myself listening to something this folksy/singer-songwriter. Also sometimes depressing.
