Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Cinnamon Girl and Cowgirl in the Sand have been favourites of mine for a long time. I discovered Neil Young, and this album in particular, after listening to Pretty on the Inside by Hole some time in 1992 or 1993 when I was a pre-teen.
Back in the day, when we had record stores, I asked the guy working there what songs were on the track Starbelly. That day I discovered not only Neil Young, but Fleetwood Mac and Joni Mitchell (the last track being a cover of Clouds).
Thanks, Courtney!

Jazz just isn't for me. It brings back childhood trauma memories of my parents forcing me to play the trumpet when I had wanted to learn piano or the violin instead. Trumpets just don't work for me. Too loud, repetitive, and obnoxious.
I did appreciate the piano and bass. 😎

The synthesizer sounds are so nostalgic for me. I can hear so many of my favourite bands from the 80s in this album like Depeche Mode and even Skinny Puppy! The experimentation with all the sounds, chef's kiss. 🖤

Lorde
Lorde sounds insufferable. It's either she's a tryhard or maybe really young? I can't tell but, what I can tell is that, I don't like this.
By track 6 I was like, this really sounds like it was inspired by Lana Del Rey's 2012 'Born to Die' (and a few other albums came to mind throughout the listen), what year is this album from?! So I checked and it's from 2017. Then I remembered! This is the glory and gore chick from the mid-2010s! I thought she was a one hit wonder that faded into history.
I listened 'til the end. Sorry, but nope, still don't like it. Very mid and unoriginal.

Didn't sound cohesive. More like a jam session. Maybe that's what it was supposed to be?
Not for me.

Holy cat screeching hell. This is really bad. I usually love dark and melancholy, too, but this guys voice is grating.
After listening all the way through, this is like a bunch of 90s bands squashed into one with a weird moody country mix. I swear I could hear Beck, STP, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, even Tool! and who knows what else, "inspiration".
I'm sorry to anyone who likes this. 💀

Amy Winehouse
I didn't know Fran Drescher could sing! Haha, just kidding. I love Amy Winehouse, but I can only listen to her songs one at a time (like within a playlist of other musicians). A little too much whine from Winehouse. Ok, I'll stop now. 😅

I remember seeing this band (opening act) back in the day at a NiN concert. I don't remember liking them, but I'll give it a listen.
Halfway through... Ugh, I don't like this guy's voice. Reminds me of Dave Grohl. Very generic grunge.
Holy shit, this was 1998!? This guy didn't get the memo that grunge was dead. 😂
The album ended with horrible noise. Yeah, it's a 1 star.

I hate you, but I love you! So punk rock and you can hear the inspiration these guys poured into the grunge movement some 10 years after this album came out.
