Mj ColeVery fun! More exciting than I thought it would be. I forgot how fun jungle beat can be. Such a 90s feel, but very fun.

Opens with an all time classic, Respect. Really good song. We've all heard it before, but we've heard it for a reason. And the album keeps rolling from there, grooving and moving along really smoothly. Lol, and I love the bossa nova of Don't let me lose this Dream. OOhh, and I love the call and response in Save Me, along with the chugging guitar. Lol, and does it really have two iterations of the exact same track Respect on the album... or is that just spotify? Ah, that's unique to the 1995 reissue, where they did a stereo recording.
Good 90s rap. Great beats. Some great songs. That are pretty creative. But others just feel repetitive, not in a groovy way, more in a โok, where are you going with this wayโ I was expecting some of the black power political lyrics, I didnโt expect to hear so much discussion about roles of black men vs black women. Directly trying to call out a sometimes resentful relationship. Not sure it did much to repair it - it kept trying to put a lot of responsibility on black women to be better, rather than talking about what they as black men could do. So, I thought that angle was surprising. Definitely a group that likes to provoke discussion.
Great first song. Really mellows out after that. I like the guitar solo style - a bit of progressive noodling around is really satisfying. Some fun, but mostly a bit too mellow for my liking. Couldโve been better with some more energy, even if the songs were going to be slow or soft.
I love Sabrosa, what a cool bass-led jam. And Ricky's Theme! Who would have expected this from the band that does Sabotage... not me! So smooth and funky. Yo! and the bassline on The Scoop is awesome... I didn't know they could do this. Really incredible.
Interesting noises. Not something I need to listen to all the time. But some type of rhythmic background noises, that they made work. Impressive more for what they worked with than for the "music" this created.
Wayyyyy more sounds of sex than I expected. Great rap. Good beats, funny lyrics, really bigs himself up a lot. Lol, get it. Very good, except for the really specific sounds of sex. Felt a bit much. Yo but the track Suicidal Thoughts is really good. And Big Poppa is famous for a reason. Juicy is great, too.
After the first few notes, I thought I would like this album more than I did. Stayed firmly in the experimental side, instead of going into the more jazzy / tempo side I thought. Maybe just a difference of expectations.
Everything's Not Lost is one of the best closing tracks of all time. What great guitar work throughout the album.
Love the opening. Sounds almost like U2 with a bit more punk / garage rock feel. Can hear so many similarities right from the open. Wasn't really familiar with more bands that sounded like them, before. Oh! I also hear a lot of Oasis in them. Guess that makes sense! Got a bit repetitive by the end. Still good.
Interesting start, I like it. Give me more of that late-90s British Jungle Beat, please. Overall, really fun. Some good variety of beats still, and different types of grooves. And fun voice samples played through. The track Don't Die Just Yet sounds so much like one song Beck's album Modern Guilt from the violins, the bass line, even some of the hooks. Beck had to know about this! One of the most surprising parts about all of these albums is how many connections and similarities you can hear.
Ooh, Mr. Guder is used a sample in some famous rap song... famous whistle. Fun, chill, 70s flower child tracks. Beautiful voice.
Whoa... now this is a fun sound. Very distinct. Sounds electronic, but actually a lot of genuine instruments with fun effects. I suppose, what is that line? A few songs that are built off more basic chord progressions. Like the song Flugufrelsarinn. Good formula for exploration -- starting with some trusted, basic foundation. However, this gets a bit old by the end of the 7 minute song... some more variation might have been good to add in.
Incredible. There is a reason he is a legend, and it is this album. All hits, no misses.
Whoa. Super 80s. Like soft yacht-rock with more pop-80s in it. This album is everything I have needed. I wish the snare was even tighter. Money's Too Tight has so much 80s in it. From the bass line, tight drum beat, to the wiggly synth... it's awesome.
Decent 80s pop
Great indie rock album
