With every passing song I turned more and more into a beer-gut having, long bearded, wife-beater wearing, sweaty, hairy man. In a good way.
I feel like the album ebodies - sonically and lyrically - what Rock`n`Roll meant back then. Living hard and fast. The lyrics are definitely nothing to write home about (much more something to write the police about, cough cough Jailbait), but it works for the songs. It does get a little repetitive though.
You can undeniably tell how much this album influenced a lot of early thrash and speed metal bands, so in that respect definitely an essential album.
My favorite songs probably are The Roadcrew and, as basic as it might be, Ace of Spades.
6.5/10??
FUCK YEAAAAH! always love listening to this album.
the way they blend the amount of genre influences while maintaining a sense of sonic consistency is remarkable.
the only thing thats lowkey mid are the lyrics but besides that, this album is a tens across the board.
difficult to pick a favorite song bc I'd just list off half the album lol
had not heard about Fela Kuti nor the album before this, which is a more than just a shame, considering how significant he and his music is to nigeria and music in general. so i'm very happy to have broadened my horizon.
one of the instances that make me sad i don't do drugs, but then again, this album feels like a high in the best way possible, so i guess drugs are not needed.
this album is surprisingly timeless. sure, it makes sense it came out`70 but i als would not have been surprised if you told me it was released by some niche underground band last year.
the perussion is truly to die for and the guitar solos are hawwwwt!
this album has some absolute bangers that give me exactly what i wanted. crunchy synths and funky bass lines, leaning into video game menu music without it being video game menu music. it's futuristic in a 60s space age meet frutiger aero way, which is right up my alley. i also really enjoy the vocals.
I knew sexy boy from tiktok (i know i know) and must say it's by far the worst song on the album. in general the album falls victim to some of the songs being a tad too long. most of them do need the length to build and develop the song well, but some just drone on without giving me anything.
but the ones that eat, EAT.
feels so painfully millenial i might open a burger restaurant with exposed brick wall and metal furniture.
this feels a little like a dish that's missing seasoning. its not bad and i could eat it, but it will be lacking that kick of spice. perhaps it would be more enjoyable if i was in a different mood.
enjoyed steamroller blues the most bc well, blues.
this is SOOOO 90s its crazy.
knew some songs of the album but also really enjoyed listening to the whole thing. i do wish sometimes though, that the guitars were a little grittier idk
im going into this album trying to listen past the grudge i still hold against itunes randomly adding u2 onto all of our libraries.
people gloat on them so much, you'd think they'd actually make music worthy of gloating but i think people just like to lie.
oh now this, is weird. in a good way. this album feels like sitting in the sun, sipping on a cocktail that consists of some weird ingredient concoction but surprisingly works well together.
def will have this album play in the background this summer
the lyrics are awful but what can u say. the album puts me in a good mood, the beats eat, the flow is great, love his voice.
when i was a very small child my whole family went on a hungary vacation and thats when i first heard money for nothing. little me would then proceed to terrorize my family the whole trip with demanding that song to be played on loop. and they say there were no signs ts ts ts.
i really liked that wow. to quote zozo: incense burning music
this was like if ai would've produced a britpop album
looooove his voice so bad man
found me at the right time i guess, very much into accoustic guitar atm and wow this man knew how to play the guitar. read up on his wikipedia and apparently playing around w guitar chords was one of his fav things about making music and well, you can tell! so many beautiful progressions!
