Ananda Shankar
Ananda Shankar
Surprisingly Beatles-ey. But with sitar instead of voice. Holy shit this is a bop. Jumpin Jack Flash is UNREAL. This version is better than the original. Snow Flower was beautiful, the descending bends at the end were killer. Really cool and unique take on light my fire. Mamata is a really fun beach-y track. Makes me want a Pima colada or mojito and to go to the beach. Metamorphosis is just super cool, the interplay between the synth and sitar is really chill. The build in this one is really really nice. The climax feels very earned. Sagar is very eerie. Almost alien to my ears because I’m not used to listening to Raga very much. The repeating synth line in the back is very very scary. The guitar coming in at the eight minute mark is very relaxing and satisfying to finally get past the turbulent waters of the intro. HOLY FUCK HE USED THE REPEATING RAGA RIFF/RHYTHM AND MADE A ROCK GROOVE OUT OF IT OH MY GOD. The voice at the start of dance Indra scared the fuck out of me. This song is very almost prophetic of early gangsta rap. The repeating low synth bass notes with the sitar on top is very 90s sounding. Super hippy intro into raghupati. I liked the tone of that better than I liked the call and response back and forth kinda a mood killer honestly with how sick that intro sounded. After that the repeated vocal into the fade out was an amazing ending. What an incredible experience of an album that was. Just a masterpiece of genre blend of 70s rock mixed with traditional Indian sitar and raga. Very wonderful to listen to. I will be coming back again. Five stars.

Deja Vu
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Carry on is so cool. The harmony is great and satisfying. The repetitive swingy rhythm on the guitar drives everything forward. Oh the groovey solo section in the middl. Teach your children is way too country for me, and pretty boring overall. Almost cut my hair is straight up a meme and a really good song. The delayed guitar and snare hits are really fun with the blues feel. Chorus is great too. Helpless is rather boring too unfortunately. Well performed but just not for me. I like Woodstock as well. It seems I really like the harmony heavy quicker songs. Guitar solo at the end smacked. Deja vu sounds like the Shankar album I listened to yesterday! This unison singing is really nice. Our song is very beatlesey. I love how different each song on this album has sounded. Lyrically these songs are rough. 4 + 20 gives me really strong red dead vibes. I really like this one. Country girl is a really cool song too. I love the vibes. Everybody I love you is all right. Not super catchy or interesting like the others but not boring either. Overall the album was fun, I’m glad I listened to it. It has a couple good songs I might come back to later but overall not my thing. Good music, I just don’t really vibe with it.

Unbelievable album. It’s the cure. One of my favorite bands. I can’t say anything bad about them. Just a joy to and pleasure to listen to.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
David Bowie
I really dislike Bowie’s voice. I like it when he’s doing the “Bowie thing” and kinda sounding a little nasally but otherwise it sounds like he’s screaming into the mic un-melodically. I love the writing of these songs but I can’t get over the vocals. Starman is phenomenal of course but the first three didn’t leave any lasting impression. It ain’t easy is good too! Ziggy stardust is famous but I’m not the biggest fan of. The lyrics are weird and it’s not really super fun to listen to. Suffragette City on the other hand is a straight banger. The rest of the songs weren’t memorable. Honestly makes sense why the songs that I know are the ones I do, the others just aren’t super memorable.

It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
Public Enemy
I tried really hard to like this. It’s just overly repetitive and all the dings sound the same. If flavor flav wasn’t on here it would be rated higher too. He’s just really really annoying.

Hot Buttered Soul
Isaac Hayes
I really enjoyed this. It’s so funky, smooth, and just cool in general. I love the length of all of the tunes. If I’m in the mood I will listen to this again.

Peter Gabriel 3
Peter Gabriel
This is very weird. Experimental. I enjoyed my listen but I won’t listen to it again. Just odd choices in a lot of areas.
