Less than 5 minutes into the first (and longest- 20 minutes!) song of the album, Autobahn, you are already on a beautiful sound journey, I loved the different sounds and textures. The flute particularly gives an optimistic view and makes you feel like you are about to embark on a journey, which makes sense as the album title translates to the German highways. Then, it has areas of darkness, with synths that make it feel creepy. Highlight was Kometenmelodie 2 for something more optimistic. On first listen, it was giving electronic German Pink Floyd vibes, a great album to transport your mind and soul… Particularly interested in how this album was cited as a reference of David Bowie’s work, and was interested to learn about the ‘kraut rock’ genre of this band.
Oh how 80’s rock has my heart, shoutout to my dad for blasting this genre of music every weekend in the mornings to start his day. Love how this album is such easy listening. The perfect album to pop on while cooking, cleaning, studying or commuting. Love the riffs in Money for Nothing, and was pleased to hear the familiar opening in ‘Walk Of Life’, a song I have definitely heard before. My favourite is ‘Why Worry?’, a more layered song. Didn’t know how iconic this album/band was, but very pleased to familiarise myself with the album in full and have already listened to multiple times.
Listened to this in the car driving to a wine tasting in Le Creusot. Lovely memories, the album but didn’t fit the vibe for the day (not the albums fault). A little somber, a little sad and I described this as ‘cry in the shower music’. Not my personal cup of tea but I understand it is a well made album and quite remarkable for a debut.
One of my favourite albums of all time, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is such an insanely good album. I love how it has the mix of rap songs (I mean opening with Lost Ones, a diss track to your ex band-mate and romantic partner goes so hard) as well as soulful tracks, such as When It Hurts So Bad and I Used To Love Him. Plus, it features one of my favourite songs of all time, Doo Woop (That Thing), an anthem about self love and worth. This album ultimately shows the range of female emotions, however the overarching and strongest emotion of love is most present- which in itself is so beautiful. Incredible, 10/10, timeless.
An album I would never hear about or listen to as I am not well versed in funk music but absolutely LOVED. Fun, energetic and different this was an amazing listen. Yes, a soul band CAN do rock music. Would love to explore more music by this band.
Wowwww, we have some jazz! I love the sweet, uplifting sounds, that just oozes with so much passion and love. Keely’s vocals are absolutely beautiful. Wow, I loved the production of the album in the fact that it was recorded at a casino lounge in the 50s.
A 90s indie album that deals with themes of angst and existential despair, this album is emotional and you can feel it in the music. I surprisingly liked Ballad of Big Nothing- I love the guitar riffs throughout the song to give it the 90s angsty vibes. Whilst not my favourite kind of music, I actually don’t mind this albumand can appreciate the emotionally charged songs. Maybe a song to cry in the bath to over a candle and glass of wine (is this niche?).
A classic rock album, although you can hear the bluesy, country influences which give it depth. Although not my favourite genre of music, I can appreciate it! This album does make me wanna wear flare jeans and line dance in cowboy boots lol
There’s something about 90s rap that I love… it’s hot, it’s hard and it hits… Cube’s voice is smooth, rapping effortlessly about issues that are still prominent today. You can hear his emotion in each song and he articulates himself well, I also love the interludes in between songs. I do love his clapback in Fuck ‘Em with media clips (although don’t love the accusations thrown at him lol) throughout the song. The best way to respond to haters. Gangsta’s Fairytale 2 is also super fun and love Don’t Trust ‘em.
I felt like a lot of the songs sounded the same, but not a bad album, not my fave! Do love psycho killer tho
A beautiful, hazy 90s dream pop album that is so addictive to me. It feels feminine, raw and emotional, the perfect music for self-reflecting (I’m emotional, lol). A highlight for me is Iceblink Luck, a dreamy song, as well as the albums opening track, Cherry-coloured Funk. Loved this album so much and has really solidified why I love this genre of music!
Firstly, what an opening to an album, instantly you are sucked in to the rock n roll. Not going to lie, I’ve only heard a few Oasis songs before this (I do roll my eyes at Wonderwall, sorry it’s a good song it’s just overplayed and straight men may have ruined it for me), but this album did make me see the hype. A true 90s Britpop album, I love the calm, cool and collected voice and vibe of Oasis. A song highlight Some Might Say. Some of the songs drag on, but still a great album and I so get why it’s essential listening!
