Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Arctic MonkeysIdk like less interesting Strokes. The whole Garage Rock Revival thing with the overuse of seventh chords never worked for me. This album is for nicer people.

Surprised I’ve never listened to this one since I’ve heard The Idiot a million times. This one gives more of a early 70s Lou Reed energy where The Idiot felt totally new. The last few lines of Success are hilarious. This is a really good record, nothing groundbreaking but anything Bowie rubs up against turns to gold.
I rarely hear people talk about the bass on this album. It’s basically always doing the same ostinato line the whole song and eventually drops out for a bit. But a song like Ny Batteri would be nothing without it.
Forgot how much light and life there is in every single one of Stevie's songs. One of the all-time greats.
Good beats, a little too much sex and money hip hop for me though
One of those bands you’ve never met somebody who’s said they’re their favorite band (although I’m sure they’re out there). The lead single obviously broke the band into the mainstream, but the rest of the album is okay although the latter half is a little more generic. The band’s strength is not doing the post-punk thing really well but inventing a whole new sound. I used to think of The Police as kind of an overpolished 80s band but the history shows they invented a lot more of their sound than I used to think.
A little too long and generic but good nonetheless
This is on the list but not Spirit of Eden? What the hell kind of shit is that? I love this though, never heard anything else like it.
It’s unfortunate that this album has to compare itself with its little sister Mezzanine but it’s very good in its own right.
Love this album. Iconic tracks. Falters a bit in the last couple of tracks but most of it's a banger for sure.
Why did they make the best track a hidden track? Bringing the 70s and early 80s into the 90s, similar vibe to like the dandy Andys.
