Honestly somewhat shocking how subversive some of the lyrics on this album are. Fast Car sucked up all the attention, and then you miss a lot of things like "Don't ya know? / They're talking about a revolution / It sounds like a whisper / Poor people gonna rise up / And get their share." Tell me, why do the babies starve? When there's enough food to feed the world Why when there are so many of us Are there people still alone? Why are the missiles called Peacekeepers When they're aimed to kill? Why is a woman still not safe When she's in her home?
I had a really hard time with this one. I can hear what is going to become the Stones that I know, but those early experiments in stereo sound are particularly jarring to me now.
This is like you asked Green Day to do Green Day but do it epic. Thereβs a lot to it, but itβs still a bunch of punks at heart.
