Talking Heads 77
Talking HeadsThis is the first album generated for me! First song was great, then it felt like filler until No Compassion woke me back up. Psycho killer is obviously a classic, Pulled up is a grower bop.

2nd album Intro holds a special place in my heart, first heard on a TV ad that I Shazzamed, then used it as the backing track of an English presentation and Bobbi said she liked the song which made me feel like I'd made a good choice - I had been doubting whether it was too slow. This album is a bit of a grower, I've heard it in it's entirety before and there were a lot of good songs, but the pace of them was a bit too slow that they were hard to be consumed by and usually got relegated to the background.
Day 3, bowie! Oh wow, I'm excited to listen to this :) what an icon First couple songs felt like Bowie filler, I'm sure they will grow on me if I read into the meaning of the lyrics more. First song that captured me were Stars are out tonight and Love is Lost. At the start of Whee are we now? I thought "wow this is a good album" - such an early mood change to create a shape / journey. Great album, lots of imagery of sadness, war, death, eastern Europe, god/devil. It's engaging the whole way from when it gets off the blocks after the first couple bowie-standard songs. The final song, Heat, was quite a snoozefest so it's a shame for that to be the closer. I'd have to relisten to decide between 3 or 4, but very very accomplished and creative mix of songs.
I like his voice! Great album, but pretty forgettable too
This album is so boring and awful. I've tried listening to it twice, and given up twice after a few songs. I'd rather be cutting out my eyelids.
First song was good, not anything mind blowing but solid. The rest of the songs carried on largely in the same vein so I might've been tempted to give a 2. Though after reading about how the album came to be from our favourite wannabe celebrity economist Tim Harford this steps it up to a solid 3 with 4 potential: a grumpy, high strung musical genius, a zesty, young jazz fan, a packed opera house and a soaking wet grand piano and a mucky, sticking, spare piano all that was left. The album does manage to rise and fall and feel satisfying for the ending songs which is surprisingly impressive given the circumstances and resources to hand.
This is a solid album, with good songs - particularly after the first few songs. But, I won't be coming back too often to listen to it as it is quite dreary throughout.
Boring, I don't like this album.
Maybe it was nice in its day? But hell nah man!
I liked this, it started out a little Smiths-esque, then became more American sounding half way through, nice discovery
My first thought: oh no Tom Waits, we all know what that means, luckily I've heard his music before so I'm pretty good with his voice. This is a brilliant album! It's funny, jazzy, great vibes, great voice. I introduced Tom Waits to Sarah with this on the way to Beetle and Wedge, got her warmed up to it by saying his voice is a cross between Louis Armstrong and the Cookie Monster. Really enjoyed this one!
Oh they're legendary, I'm looking forward to this one! Good album, could be funkier for my tastes, but perfect balance for the era and I never knew Shaft started off life here.
This is such a happy, upbeat and fun album. A few irking songs but on the whole great.
Snoozefest!
This was a good one, some of the lyrics were a bit basic but a nice solid country vibe to travel to our first Funghi Supper Club in Marlborough to.
Never been able to see what the fuss about Green Day was, this was probably nice for nostalgia for someone a touch older than me, but does nothing for me.
It was fine, nothing grabbed me about it.
Nice, good background
Brilliant album with such a strong lock on my memory and an incredible project. Loved having a reason to relisten today.
Good one, not too many bangers but a classic for sure
