Had fun time listening to that album, nice one!
Okay, it has one or two mildly enjoyable songs, but overall it's so BORING, that I would let it play only in some crappy roadside pub, where I won't stay too long.
It's nice, but somewhat homogeneous and wants to seem like the very essence of pop rock of those years. It's catchy, but it's not THAT catchy, and that makes it playable only one or two times.
And seriously, 60 tracks in 2018's deluxe edition?
A brit-pop rock with a hint of US motifs. Good instrumental, the voice is a bit too high for me. Feels mostly like a soundtrack to a early to mid 2000s family adventure or student comedy movie. Fine and catchy, but not quite mine.
For me, this album has become personal, because there have been moments in my life that I found reflected in those Waters' whinings. That's why I forgive this album for all its flaws (which, incidentally, are almost non-existent!).
Obviously not their best album. Although the sound is pleasant and even lulling (i was drunk xd), it may seem fairly boring. It has some bangers, so I'll recomend to listen to it on background only.
Difficult for focused listening because of the rehearsability of musical syllables (however, not as long as Klaus Schulze's). Also pointless and too complex to listen in the background because of the very essence of the album - experiments with sound searching, the use of instruments atypical for jazz, and oversaturation with an inharmonious avant-garde sound (in some brief moments it even seems more like some kind of "classic noise"). It might be a revolutional album for its time, but it didn't work out for me.
Solid 4. At first I didn't want to raise the rating above 3.5 due to some controversial aspects in nearly half of songs. Those include the lack of sympathy for industrial as a genre, with its noisy moments. However, this album (recognised as one of the best of this band btw) is quite diverse in terms of harmony, the lyrics of some songs (ESPECIALLY "Hurt") are heartbreaking. At last, Trent Reznor's talented contribution to music should not be underestimated.
The Smiths are very good at playing on your feelings, that's the thing you can't take away from them. The album is a bit outshadowed by "Meat is murder" and "The Queen is dead", but there are fine songs, such as my favorite "I started something I couldn't finish". The pleasant, slightly melancholic sound goes back to the recent past, when I was 16, when such music was like a healing ointment. Recommend it if you liked other albums.
Solid lyrical country music. The beginning of the album is measured, played on a couple of chords and creates the atmosphere that you are sitting in a half-empty pub or taking a minibus to another city. The second half of the album is already with more cheerful motives, apparently so that the listener doesn't get bored completely. I can't recommend it, it didn't catch on, but it wasn't bad either.
A majestic game with samples, I love this kind of level filling, funkiness. Discovered plunderphonics for myself with "Messer fur Frau Muller", but now it's a pity, that I haven't started with "Avalanches", and even specifically with this album. Fell in love with the first audition, wanna have it on a CD.
