Ray Of Light
Madonna
I mostly enjoyed this even if it wasn't something I would have normally picked. I usually find layered beats and electronica soulless, but Madonna breathes nice life into it. It's a vibe and I caught it on a complimenting rainy day. Not my favorite but not a dud.

Here's Little Richard
Little Richard
It's hard not to give this album a 5. It's such a foundational piece of music history, and quite the introduction to a legendary musical talent destined to influence everything after him. The album suffers a bit from its lack of variety when viewed as a whole. It almost becomes too much of a good thing. Nonetheless, what a terrific debut for Little Richard.

Hounds Of Love
Kate Bush
This isn't part of the 80's I wish to revisit. I recognize the value of some of this music, but in general, Kate Bush isn't for me.

The Velvet Underground & Nico
The Velvet Underground
This is a good listen. It's both raw and balanced. I feel like it moves nicely through different moods without wearing anything out.

Deep Purple In Rock
Deep Purple
What a nice entry with some punch. Good, heavy leaning rock that is mostly straight-forward and doesn't spend too much time getting off track. Great rhythm with heavy riffs. And at just 42 minutes long, it's a nice excursion.

Melody A.M.
Röyksopp
I can't really say I'm a fan of this album. It's fine for some background noise. It's got a chill, easy personality, but there's just nothing noteworthy to latch onto. It's a collage of sounds and beats, soullessly compiled into an album without ever generating any interesting texture. I guess the best thing about it is there's nothing to dislike either. It's like soft-serve vanilla ice cream. Nothing really to like or dislike about it. It just is.

At San Quentin
Johnny Cash
This is a good enough album but a great bookmark on a moment in time. Cash's stage banter, vocal presence and interplay with the live prison audience is the real magic here.

Birth Of The Cool
Miles Davis
I believe Miles Davis is among the USA's most important musicians. Rating this album on just a listen, I think, flies past the importance of this transitional album in the jazz timeline. I wonder what I would feel if I heard it for the first time at it's release date. I think this would be a wonderful listen for a newcomer to this sound. It's wonderfully relaxed, melodic and rich. It's not overdone, overstated or hard to follow. It's a lovely and digestible entry in the vast universe of jazz.
