Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes

With its sparse arrangements, often just drums, guitar, and vocals, the album makes it easier to hear the clarity and separation between each element. Recorded mostly on analog gear, it carries a warm, gritty midrange that’s great for revealing how natural or “alive” a speaker’s midband can sound

Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne
Nov 10 2025

This is a fascinating listen, especially for evaluating speakers or headphones. It’s not a “hi-fi reference” album in the traditional sense, but it’s richly layered, sonically playful, and reveals a lot about how your system handles texture, space, and rhythm. This would be an album I would include into a speaker demo.

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
Nov 11 2025

I’ve known this album for years, but this time I listened to it from an audiophile point of view. Elvis sings very close to the microphone, which gives the vocals intimacy but leaves little sense of room or space. There’s quite a lot of compression throughout the record, limiting the dynamics. The production is rough and edgy, a style that perfectly suits the album’s energy and attitude, but doesn’t really fall within my personal taste.

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Nov 12 2025

Sigur Rós’s production is lush and reverberant, full of atmospheric layers and stereo depth. Great for checking stereo imaging and soundstage width.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Nov 13 2025

The album captures the full club atmosphere of Mister Kelly’s: - audience presence - room reflections - subtle mic bleed This gives a sense of soundstage depth and realism, perfect for checking how well your speakers reproduce a live environment. It's not a wide sound stage more a deep soundstage. Each musician is behind Sarah. Great room ambient feeling.
