1001 Albums Summary

Somehow I’ve never gotten far into this album. It’s hard to imagine any band getting the runway from their label to put out an album this sprawling, but I don’t think there are many wasted moments. Clearly a band at the peak of their creative powers. The influence of “69 Love Songs” has enjoyed a strong run through the years, but most noticeably amongst the stomp clap hey bands of the 2010s (or as I like to call it, “Of Mumfords and Lumineers”).

Not my style of choice by any means, but to me this album is the definitive realization of what the nu metal/rap rock genres could be. Chester's voice is a beautiful buzzsaw.

All the lyrical depth of a 14 year old who just found their dad's Playboy stash. They guitar parts have a strong command of the blues, but that's about the only thing propping this album up. The production succumbs to all the worst trends of the early-to-mid '80s.
