Moon Safari by Air
Dec 09 2025

In 2006 I had a girlfriend who had a CD player/alarm clock (this was just before the iPhone was released in 2007) and you could set the alarm so that instead of an unsettling beeping sound it would play whatever CD you put in it as your alarm. Every time I stayed the night at her place I would regularly and reliably wake up to one of two albums. The first was Broken Social Scene’s 2002 seminal masterwork You Forgot It In People and the second, none other than Moon Safari by Air. As I closed my eyes and hit play 20 years on I was hatched instantly into a nest of exhilarated freedom by that Miles Davis/Smooth as eggs up there in my top 5 bass lines of all time bass lines . Then it dawned on me, I’d never listened past the first track as a result of having to hastily throw on my work clothes and fly out the door to try to be on time for whatever job I was working at the time. Stand Out : All I Need - summarizes the calming euphoria this whole album contains

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Dec 10 2025

Mother always said if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything and I don’t have anything to say. That’s not true. I have a bunch of nice things to say. Starting the set with an acoustic version of My My Hey Hey and then ending it with a super heavy grungy version and calling it Hey Hey My My is top shelf chefs kiss tasty. That version of hey hey my my is where the roots of grunge music can be traced all the way back to and then ironically strung all the way forward with the lyric “It’s better to burn out and fade away”, included in the suicide note of the man responsible for the grungw explosion in the early 1990s, Kurt Cobain. Another nice thing I have to say is that the melody and timbre of Neil Young‘s voice in Pocahontas is in its own echelon of sweetness, and if bee’s ever had to collect songs to feed and nourish their queen instead of pollen Pocahontas would her sonic main course. Ok three. Thrasher is better thsn I realized on second listen. Fuck, so is Sail Away, now the mother always said addage I started with doesn’t match the thing. Well that’s unfortunate. Don’t listen to me. Listen to Neil Young. Stand Out- A tie between the closing track Hey Hey My My, particularly the dirty, grungy tone, of the electric guitar and thrashing guitar solo that are pretty much the ground zero of what what eventually become mainstream 90s grunge rock and Pocahontas and it’s royal aviary delectibility.

C'est Chic by CHIC
Dec 11 2025

In a 1978 review The Los Angeles Times referred to the bulk of this album as “Pedestrian Disco”. As Borat would say, “High Five”. If C’est Chic was a movie it would be called the Wizard of Chiq and the first half of the album would be it meandering around on a black-and-white dance floor looking for home and then voila, I Want Your Love would blast it into sweet sonic disco/funk techinicolor and send Dorothy home to Kansas in red stillettos. Finally, I don’t think it’s necessary to talk too much about the omnipresent wedding dance floor smash hit le freak. With the rising cost of inflation, no one is going to be able to afford to have weddings which means less emphasis on the hits. Instead they’ll be at home checking out the deep cuts like I Want Your Love. If I only had a freak. Stand Out Track - I Want Your Love

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest

On the same day, Sept 24 1991 Nirvana’s Nevermind and Tribe Called Quests Low End Theory were both released. September 24th should be made a National holiday called Twin Apex Predator Album Birthday.

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys
Dec 15 2025

Trailblazing in both its creativity and mysogony.

Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro
Dec 17 2025

The lead guitar player was great… go on…. the lead guitar player was great. Gotcha. Track I will listen to again: Goodhead.

Rapture by Anita Baker
Dec 18 2025

Its 1986. Where my Anita Bakers at? Here!

Dec 24 2025

43 songs in 74 minutes. more like just under two minute men. sounds like drunk, creative punk rockers with ADHD. I didn’t really remember anything by the time I got to the end except the instrumental acoustic one was a really fun record on the less
