I’m not a huge Beatles fan, but this is a really good album, just not one I find myself reaching for to listen to very often. I do really love Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight, and this relisten also made me realize how many other bands I listen to likely drew sound inspiration from certain types of Beatles songs, which is cool
really good, makes me want to listen to more soundgarden albums in full since this was my first, especially their earlier albums to see how their sound evolved before the 90s grunge scene really took off
this is really good!! i think my favorite track is Raised on Robbery. i didn’t really know any of these beforehand, i’ve listened to the album twice now and i don’t think i dislike any of the songs, i’m not sure if they’re all songs i would listen to all the time but i have really enjoyed this. i like Twisted a lot too. the jazzy folk combo vibe of the album does really work for me.
i’m not super impressed by this album. not incredibly interesting, no songs that i feel compelled to listen to again really. maybe just not my thing. i want to find it interesting because of the prog vibes, but it’s just kind of a bland album to me.
an album that i recognize is very technically impressive, but not one i see myself listening to and enjoying very much. i’ve never been a huge Van Halen fan, but i did like Jamie’s Cryin’ and thought Ice Cream Man was fun and weird. the You Really Got Me cover is pretty good too. realistically like a 2.5 star album for me, but i’ll round up.
since this is their second album, i first listened to License to Ill since i’ve never listened to any beastie boys album in full and only really know the big hits. my immediate impression is that the production on this one is way better. there’s more variety for sure, and for the most part it just sounds better. Egg Man is a favorite so far, the lyrics are silly but the jaws and psycho sampling is so cool especially at the end when they get layered on top of each other.
- sorry the random fiddle interlude???
- overall, a fun album, but there is A Lot happening the whole time and not always in the most interesting way. i liked Egg Man and Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun a lot, but by the time it got to the medley at the end i was kinda over the whole thing.
not every song on this album is a hit, but this does make me want to listen to more Tom Waits. i really like the vibe of his music and the contrast between these really beautiful instrumentals and his gravelly, guttural vocals. it’s a little jarring sometimes, but i liked it. just don’t know if i’ll find myself revisiting the album as a whole very often.
the bass lines on this album are really cool and interesting, i think that’s more interesting than the constant shredding of the lead guitar.
overall, decent sounding album but mostly forgettable. megadeth has never really been my preference of the 80s thrash metal scene. not something i see myself listening to again, but it’s not an unlistenable album. probably closer to 2.5 stars
was not expecting to choogle for 8 minutes that was crazy, also didn’t realize they recorded proud mary first
was not for me unfortunately, probably would not listen again and even though i liked a couple of songs lyrically i just really don’t want to listen to them ever again
not my favorite radiohead album, but it does have a couple of really good tracks (Pyramid Song, Knives Out)
