Overall enjoyable. 2-3 songs stand out (I’d save those to my library) also because I think I’ve heard them before. White rabbit and somebody to love are the known ones. I enjoyed the mood from In the morning.
Track C - Group Dancers is a gem. The flute melody is beautiful and the introduction of “non-conventional” instruments or ways to play like the Spanish guitar makes me happy in the sense that they allow themselves to experience, to go beyond boundaries. Track B - Duet Solo Dancer reminds me of elephants in a Disney movie. I love the playfulness between all the winds. Love brass! Mode D is a great closing track with details from all other tracks. There’s a “goddam it” part I love. Reminds me of the shushing and singing in records from Glenn Gould.
I guess what makes PJ Harvey is her voice. The music is ok but by itself it just sounds like okaysh rock, not that special. I wonder if this is a record I would’ve enjoyed more back in 2000.
Highlights for me are Just and My iron lung. Popular songs like high and dry which I loved 20 years ago kind of bother me now. The album overall is a bit too pop for what I like about Radiohead. I had forgotten how much I love Street Spirit (Fade out). What a great way to close out an album.
Overall well produced and enjoyable album. Just not the type of music I’d listen to willingly ;)
A couple of good songs but nothing much to highlight. Like a lot of bands, most songs sound somehow similar then if you’re not particularly into the style of their music, you’re left out of most of the rest they do.
As a Colombian this Christmas music does not resonate deeply with me. Still, I think it’s a good attempt to recreate these classics.
