Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Dec 22 2025

Peace Frog was the most played song on my iPod in middle school for good reason. The blues shines through but there are moments (as with several Doors records) that bored me here. Overall, its a stereoscopic adventure and the Doors are clearly having fun and in lock step with each other.

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Dec 23 2025

Few albums change the course of music as much as LiB. Culture defining, genre blending, auditory ecstasy. A band finding their sound like no other.

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
Dec 29 2025

I ~think~ I understand why '77 is impactful and forward-thinking, but the Talking Heads may be the band for whom my affection is most uneven. I love some tracks deeply and loath others in equal measure. Maybe it’s the overt "narrative" lyrical impulse or their goofiness that's kept me at arm’s length all these years. Psycho Killer is, undeniably, a classic, but The Book I Read is my true favorite of ’77. 2/5 stars in the context of the 1001 Greatest.

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Dec 30 2025

Despite its notoriety, I hadn't heard side 1 of this classic lullaby-for-adults. The first half is more conceptual (by design, I later read) and sounds more cohesive as a result than the singles and heavy-hitters on side 2. Easy listening right here!

Music Has The Right To Children by Boards of Canada
Dec 31 2025

Didn’t think it was for me until roygbiv. Great to drive to on a cold crisp Kentucky night. Count me in!

Jan 14 2026

Just wasn’t crazy about this. So much dissonent guitar and British isle pub themes for my taste. Amazing this is the same Billy from the epic Wilco collab - hope that cracks the top 1001!

The Modern Dance by Pere Ubu
Jan 15 2026

Can't believe I didn't hear this sooner.
