1001 Albums Summary

Funky. Starts strong with The Power of Equality and If You Have To Ask. Breaking the Girl is one of the most underrated RHCP songs. Funky Monks is alright. Suck My Kiss gets the album back on track with some energy (sick drums). I Could Have Lied slows it down. Some real emotive guitar stands out here. Mellowship Slinky in B Major gets funky again. That riff. The Righteous & the Wicked keeps it riding until the all time classic in Give it Away. Blood Sugar Sex Magic is a great title song. Under the Bridge top 3 RHCP songs imo. Naked in the rain is fun, rippin that bass! Apache Rose Peacock sounds to sound like some of the other songs on the album, doesn't really stand out even with the strange lyrics. The Greeting Song was mostly forgettable. My Lovely Man follows up the same. Sir Psycho Sexy gets wild lyrically, but keeps you engaged with the musical changes throughout the song, especially the xylophone in the third minute. They're Red Hot is a perfect finish. 7/10

Beautiful. A piece of history.

Started off unimpressed but the solo at the end of The Straightener straightened me out. Tomorrow's Dream is good, Changes, emotional. FX would probably spin my head if I were stoned. Supernaut starts with a sick guitar riff. Snowblind rocks despite being explicitly about cocaine. Cornucopia is a dark, swaying romp. Laguna Sunrise, a touching instrumental. St. Vitus' Dance returns with an English rock song that doesn't do much for me. Album finishes with a sick anti-religious jam, Under the Sun. 6/10.

Great start with Bittersweet Symphony, iconic string riff. However, Sonnet was not an encouraging follow up, quite boring. The Rolling People was more interesting, musically, will solid layers of sound driving an creative instrumental session featuring some creative non-lyric vocals. The Drugs Don't Work changes the pace, starting out with a slow, acoustic strum and soft vocal intro, and finishing mostly unimpressive. Catching the Butterfly speeds up modestly with a rolling rhythm and trippy, scratchy guitars and the next four songs just kind bleed together. I've practically forgot that Bittersweet Symphony started this album... The same continued through to the end 2/10

Lots of high points. So incredibly creative musically and lyrically. 7/10

I knew that I was going to be familiar with a few songs on this album, but I was surprised to learn that I knew quite a few of them despite not knowing they were by Tina Turner. And the songs I didn't know were all impressive. I am still not the biggest fan of the 1980s rock sound, but this album is well done. 7/10

Exactly why I started this challenge. An album I was very unlikely to listen to that I ended up really enjoying in the end. An slice of American history. 6/10.

An incredibly creative endeavor. Perhaps too long for me to really retain much of it. 6/10.
