1001 Albums Summary

I was not a fan of this album being almost entirely covers. I like Otis Redding's voice and music style but I would rather hear an entire album of original songs. I didn't know that he wrote "Respect" so I learned that from researching the album. Overall, easy to listen to.

I really loved this album. I am a long-time fan of Soundgarden. Many of the tracks were familiar, but some were new to me. I liked the different moods of the songs - some hard, some sad, some just chill. Iconic songs for my generation! 5 stars.

I saw this album described as "a sound painting" and I love that. The layers of psychedelic funk, rock, and blues was a treat for the ears. I could picture myself walking down the street in New Orleans and hearing some of these songs coming from a club and I would most certainly go in and take a seat. You know a Jimi song when you hear it. Loved this one.

Not something I would have ever chosen to listen to, but I don't hate it. I've never even heard of Jimmy Smith who apparently is quite well-known in the industry. I think it's the "soul" with the jazz that makes it more appealing to me compared to a more classical jazz sound. It's definitely something I could put on in the background and enjoy.

I went into this one absolutely loathing Joni Michell. I gave it a shot, trying to hear what might have put it on a "great album" list. I have to report that my opinion has not changed. The best part about Court and Spark is that it's short.

The dude wrote all of the lyrics and played all of the instruments on 22 songs. Recorded after a hospitalization for major mental episode. Gloomy. Trippy. It did sound like a "rough draft" and it felt like he was unraveling as it went on. Interesting backstory but not an enjoyable album.

Reminds me of being in a daycare. Lots of weird, loud noises that I wish would stop. DNF. I wish zero stars was an option.

Good classic rock album. I am familiar with some of these songs but a lot I didn't recognize.

Never been a fan of this band. This album did not change my mind. Music is great, hate the vocals.

Lyrics are silly and repetitive. A couple songs were okay but generally I didn't care for this one.

Their best music, in my opinion, came later. This one was okay.

It's a real stretch to call this rock music. I'm so tired of listening to 50 year old music.

A lot of my favorite modern bands claim to be influenced by The Stooges. Early punk. I liked it.

I remember hearing Herbie Hancock in the early 1980s. His stuff was so cool and different. This album is more jazz than what I most know him for.

Reminds me of a bar house band - It's not bad while you're having drinks with your friends, but you forgot about them as soon as you leave.

Lovely voice. Good story telling songs.

Reminded me of the soundtrack of every 70s TV show or movie. I quite liked a few.

Several songs were familiar to me but I thought they were Elton John songs.
