1001 Albums Summary

We start in familiar territory. Not their finest work, but definitely a leap forward in their sound and stood out from the crowd when released, standing out in the UK from their Britpop peers by bringing in elements of US alt-rock and post-grunge, building dynamic contrast with walls of sound and melodic intrigue. Early experimentation deep in the layers would come further into the foreground on later releases, but this is an extremely solid sophomore album, and went a long way to influencing the sound of the late 1990s and beyond.

An odd one this. I definitely heard and loved the three singles when they came out. Pretty sure I also bought the album. But I think this might have been my first time listening to it. One of my most underrated bands, for sure.

Undeniably a classic, full of what have become staple tracks in the rock canon. Only not that exciting to me.

Similar to Willie Nelson, I know how formative this album is, but it is not one I would go out of my way to hear again. There are plenty more authentic blues albums I would rather hear.
