A very “American music culture” inspired album. You can hear country and blues rooted guitar accompanied by Bono’s recognizable voice. Although I know it’s an acquired taste; I very much enjoyed this listen. Having to push aside their later discography that was coming out while I was growing up; I can appreciate what this album displayed for U2 after seeing another part of the world that they were experiencing first hand

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth

Being a huge fan of 90’s alternative, this album has always been one that I have meant to get around too. Being one of the forefathers of the grunge sound and hearing a few songs of theirs; I had very high expectations for this going into it. The starting track was everything I imagined it to be with power driven riffs and vocals that drone and are at times delivered with snark that are showing that they are everything that pop music was NOT at the time. Sadly, once I hit the middle of this album I started to lose interest. Being an “all gas no breaks” type of project; I think this album would very much benefit from breaking up the chaotic riffs every once in a while. While I respect that this album paved the way for a whole genre of rock music and inspired countless artists to come; my advice would be if you want a more consumable album that paved the way just as much, and better song writing, I highly recommend Doolittle by Pixies over this one

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails

Sheer genius writing from Trent Reznor on this album. I’m a sucker for concept albums and this album is a great example of why people should listen to them front to back. A story of addiction and the decline of one’s sanity til the point of suicide. Now, I will admit the songs on this album, aside from maybe two, are not worth hearing by themselves
