Good funk, good horns. Give Up The Funk is still good. Good, solid, concise album
Still love Inspiration Information. Some really nice instrumentals on this, with some interesting and unique (especially for the time) sounds/instruments. Quite beautiful and some genre cross-overs with folk/soul/experimental. Extra point for album cover and his swag
This is just so good. 2 classics on here, but the other tracks are just as good. Some are very beautiful, others are more funky. Will be coming back to listen to this one again.
Pretty upbeat. Quite 80s in sound. Bit naf in places. Nothing really stands out. I even find 'sign my name' is quite dated in terms of instrumentals etc.
Very good live album. Fantastic instruments/musicians - some tracks a bit long in parts.
All hail the queen. Can't believe I've never listened to this. This surely is a GOATed album - Aretha at her best
Funky, smooth, 70s vibes. Jamiroquai are just iconic. Instruments on fire - didgeridoo
Soulsville so good. Might be one of the best mainly instrumental albums I've heard. Can hear where so many soul songs have derived from. Great sax, I wanna play some of Isaac's music
Can't give Prince less than 3 out of 5 cos it's Prince. Some good tracks on here but some that are kinda weird with a rather dated 80s feel. Dialogue on 'If I was your girlfriend' almost killed me off. I will say it ended much better than it started
I can see how this would be an important album in terms of rock & roll and rhythm & blues, but was slightly all over the place and did also just merge into one - nothing particularly memorable but I do think kinda an important listen
So far pretty epic, modern classic, lots of advert-worthy tracks. Some really beautiful tracks - I feel like I've been missing out by not having listened to this before now. I actually think this might be the best album I've listened to so far doing this 1001 albums thing. This album is so cohesive; it's not just a collection of songs, it fits and flows perfectly together. Finding out it was produced by Inflo and Danger Mouse makes a lot of sense.
Come on now, Marvin. Quite possibly the king of serenading (maybe in competition with Barry White). The way he beautifully builds tension and longing on this album is just wow
Not my usual kinda thing, since this is blues rock. Already knew 'howlin' for you'. Decent - some good motifs/hooks. I can actually see how this is a good album - it's not really my thing, but it's cool and has some interesting sounds - catchy in places
Ok vocals! Expressive, laid-back, easy-to-listen-to. Classic 12-bar blues vibes. Feels like an essential introduction to rhythm and blues, and understanding connected/related genres
'So in Love' really quite beautiful - I'll be coming back to that one. 'Jesus' also good! - There's a care and slowness about this album that I'm enjoying so far
Nothing standing out to me so far. Feels all very on one level. I don't really enjoy the production very much.
Some really nice instrumentals - very smooth sax. I feel like 'Street Life' sets the tone for the rest of the album - cruising along.
Cmon now, one of the greatest of all time. Every track is essential. Every track is stand alone. I have had different periods in my life of loving one of these songs but for different reasons
Classic Prince with that 80s sound, but he's still made it work for today. 2 classics on here. 'Purple Rain' is an amazing way to end the album. Some good upbeat and funky tracks
Pure disco heaven. Some classics on here and then some lovely slow ballads - incredible family harmonies. There's something about the instruments in this album that's so serene and ethereal
Personal with experimental interludes. Fantastic production - I could melt into 'Sierra Leone'. Every track is gold, there's variety, there's depth. It is a modern R&B classic - I'd almost go so far as to say it might be the best R&B album of the 21st century. It's an album that I always come back to and will continue to do so.
A timeless classic. Bought this album when I was 10 years old, and I still love it now, and regularly go back to listen to it. So raw, emotive, honest
