Very interesting and experimental! I enjoyed discovering Kate Bush. It was a bit too weird for my taste, though. Some songs, like Waking the Witch, didn't feel like songs and were hard to get through. Jig of Life was such a fun surprise! It was also cool to hear Running Up That Hill in full (I only knew the chorus).
Very chill and mellow. It’s a great vibe. I do prefer more upbeat music though, that’s why “Raised on Robbery” was my personal favourite. Great discovery.
Interesting discovery. It works well as background music or for sampling in other songs. On its own, though, I find it lacks a certain “something” to make it truly memorable.
Wow I had such a narrow minded view of country music. This was so good! Deep and beautiful themes, great voice and simple instrumental music. We'll Meet Again is my personal favourite!
Take Me Out is so iconic! I also enjoyed The Dark Of The Matinée. Very cool vibe.
Ouh Green Onions is so groovy, I love it! Rinky Dink and Mo' Onions were other favourties of mine. This was a super funky album. I really enjoyed it!
So good! I loved 25 Minutes To Go! The vibe of his live performance in the prison truly transforms this album into something memorable!
Absolutely stunning! Vaughan has such a beautiful voice! The music and scatting were awesome. It's everything I love about jazz, so smooth and well done!
To me, it started off a bit rocky, but got better as the album went along. I really enjoyed A Punch Up at a Wedding! Some songs were forgettable, others were good. It was a bit of a mixed bag. But overall I enjoyed discovering Radiohead more.
I did not enjoy this one very much. I understand how revolutionary and "genre-defining" it was. There are definitely some really cool artistic choices and styles that influenced hip-hop. However, I wouldn't listen to it again.
Not my cup of tea. I did not enjoy listening to any of the songs. This is something I appreciate from the 1001 Albums Challenge because it also helps me name what genres and styles I do not like.
I liked it, but I found each track a bit too long. I fully agree with this comment from another reviewer who summed it up perfectly: "if you were to cut off ~4 minutes at the start and end of every track (leaving the call-and-response vocal bits) I'd probably rate it a lot higher".
I loved discovering something new, though and I'm very intrigued to learn more about Fela Kuti. Overall, great music to have in the background.
I felt very indifferent about this album. None of the songs particularly appealed to me or moved me.
Wow this is beautiful! A perfect album for a late night drive. I had such a good time listening to this! The lyrics got me in my feels in the best way and the music was also excellent.
I really enjoyed this album! Janis Joplin’s voice is fascinating and fits the vibe of the music perfectly. Piece of My Heart was particularly great. I enjoy listening to one or two songs of this kind, but an entire album starts to feel a bit repetitive, and by the end, I wasn't enjoying it as much. It's just not the kind of album I would want to listen to from start to finish again, but there were some really fun pieces on it.
