1001 Albums Summary

"Peter Parker" has that classic percussion loop sample with the xylophone. The "there it is" line has been sampled many times. "It's Tricky" is a stone-cold jam. "My Adidas" forces you to remember that Adidas used to be the predominant street-wear brand before Nike. Break out the shelltoes. We all know the "Walk This Way" crossover. Worryingly, maybe one of the most important crossover records ever. Middle tracks lull a bit. Title track raises the energy. It is a another rock-tinged piece. "You Be Illin'" is a funky joint compared to the other tracks.

I have never listened directly to Sade, it should be said. That aside, I am familiar through exposure in Hip-Hop and RnB. "Smooth Operator" is a slick, jazzy number. Absolute jam; great way to introduce an album. Not feeling the softness of "Your Love Is King" but shoutout to the sax player. "Hang On to Your Love" is much more groovy. "Cherry Pie" feels reminiscent of "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" by The Temptations. Very guitar-driven groove. Bass line for "Why Can't We Live Together" sounds familiar, but I can't place it.

An album I have listened to all the way through multiple times. What is there to say? "Smells Like Teen Spirit" fundamentally changed the soundscape of Rock. "In Bloom" has the Pixies/Foo Fighters styling to it. I think it also captures the ennui of many Nirvana songs well.

Not my jam. I think Chris Martin has a good voice for the style, but I can't get jiggy with the soft-boi rock style. I will say that the remastered version sounds great in headphones. "Shivers" is the one track that I think goes in a general playlist.

Spacey, New Age-ish album. Never heard of the artist nor the project, but I enjoyed the vibes on first listen. "Have You Seen the Butterflies" was my favorite track.

One of my dad's favorites. Absolute dad-core classic. Something you get familiar with despite having never sought it out specifically. I must admit to having a fondness for the folksy and RnB tinged tracks. "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Up Around the Bend" are highlights.

Never heard of the artist, but I can assume this is some Suda-americano jazz fusion. Opener track starts off with the rock style riff that the song build off. The sound on "O Filosofo" reminds me of "Watermelon Man" by Herbie Hancock. Fourth track is a jam. So is "Xica de Silva". This type of jazz fusion is very much my jam.

An album I am familiar with, but have never listened to in its entirety. Soul classic.
