Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Apr 05 2026

Sounds like the 90s alright. Dated, stuck at that very specific timeframe. But well, that's the charm of this album, I guess. Was turned away at the very start cause of her vocals. They're annoying, and cringe at times tbh, but got used to them so not that big of a deal. Still great tho, she brings out a magnitude of emotions and does mostly well portraying all of them. The song-writing... uhm, is a mixed bag. Super lame and bland at times (like in "Right Through You" she mentions something about being a zillionaire and the guy won't be on her credits, wtf were you thinking writing that shit), amazing and unhinged at others. Overall great. The theme is.... well... same old heartbreak, unsuccessful relationships, acceptance and whatnot, the same old same old done in a VERY angry, vulnerable and I guess sexual manner. Didn't hit me as hard but I can still appreciate it. Very female centric. Something your middle aged liberal/feminist Aunt would blast off and reminisce about her childhood. The many difficulties she endured growing up, and how this cruel world has tormented her. Even tho she was raised as a fucking princess and is living a life you can only dream of living. Overall, a solid album with strong song-writing and tight production even though it sounds incredibly dated. Didn't connect with me and was forgettable, but a good album nevertheless. Fav track(s): You Outta Know, Right Through You, Head Over Feet.

3.5/5 Energetic. His stage presence is crazy. Didn't like the songs themselves that much but his performance can't be ignored.

Floodland by Sisters Of Mercy
Apr 27 2026

(2.5/5) On paper, I should love this. The gloomy gothic sound fits that dark fantasy aesthetics very well. This should've been great, but it just doesn't do it for me. The whole time I was left frustrated, felt like every moment was just a few seconds behind that perfect sound which never appears. The songwriting is lackluster, and repetative - could've easily cut a sizable chunk from every track. A disappointing and frustrating experience overall as it had everything I liked - that dark, moody, gloomy gothic sound, great instruments (bass was amazing in this one) all backed up by it's dark fantasy theme yet remained at arms length throughout its run time. Something crucial felt missing at every moment.

The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett

2.5/5 Listened to this twice in a row because I really really really wanted to love this, cause I love the shit out of Piper - my favourite Floyd album infact. But this just doesn't do it for me. I'm not invested in this, at all. The words just come and go, the songwriting ain't even a fraction as interesting and whimsical as that on piper. Doesn't interest me one bit. I even stopped everything and focused on this lyrics - tried to analyse them, looked up discussions about their meaning incase I'm missing something but no. I just don't like it. Which is a shame because I was so ready to be a Syd fanboy. Musically, it's barebones. Production, and everything else even are very minimal. Just a man and his guitar. Barely Psychedelic. And the songwriting is lackluster. Really wanted to like this but alas, it is what it is.
