Holly - First songs are really strong - this was maybe to its detriment because it set a high bar. A few songs felt needlessly long with instrumental that didn’t always hold my attention. I would relisten to most though, and now I know I like his sound. Rating - 3/5
Sophie - I liked this a lot more than I expected to. I had bad connotations associated with Neil young so I was pleasantly surprised. Some are just too long for me to listen to regularly but I appreciate a strong instrumental/ guitar solo. I think it had a strong start and a strong finish but lost me a little in the middle. All in all though I enjoyed it as an album and would listen again. Rating 3.5/5
Holly - I liked it. Would need a relisten because I wasn’t concentrating. Liked what I heard. 3/5
Sophie - would also need a relisten. I liked the vibes. Is it meant to be one big song? 3/5
Sophie - I know Elvis Costello by name only, and I wish it had been kept that way. This just did nothing for me. I don’t find the songs to be very individual and the style of his voice isn’t pleasing to listen to. The lyrics are weird. There’s genuinely nothing I enjoyed about this. 1/5
Sophie - This is just not for me. That doesn’t mean I think it’s bad or not enjoyable to listen to. It definitely has its place, but it isn’t something I’d see myself putting on to listen to. However, if I heard it playing I don’t think I’d rush to change it or bring up how much I hate it. The songs are just too long for me, not enough vocals. I think there is little need for any song to be more than 6 minutes. All that said, I am glad I listened as it’s something I probably wouldn’t have thought to listen to without this list. 2/5
Sophie - I’m fairly fond of Depeche Mode but can’t say I’ve ever listened to a full album. This is one where I only knew the singles going in. While I found the rest pleasant enough, it’s still the ones like Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence that stand out even now. The singer has such a unique style that I think works best on those 2 songs. All in all, I liked it and I think I’d relisten but nothing new really jumped out at me. 3.5/5
Sophie - It was genuinely such a pleasure to listen to this album the whole way through again. It makes me feel like a teenager just discovering music again. I honestly forgot how much I enjoy this album, my only skip would be Everything Will Be Alright. Such a solid album though. 4/5
Sophie - Look, I like jazz but, I think listening to this taught me that I only really like it in a live setting. I appreciate when I see the instruments being played. I find this album enjoyable but I don’t want to listen to it in my home, I want it played live or even just played out in a bar or something. I’m not sure why. Just didn’t quite do it for me and everything sort of blurs into one. 2/5
Sophie - Not for me. Nothing against it but it just doesn’t really tick any boxes for me. So a low rating for personal listenability but I don’t think it’s bad music. 1/5
Sophie - Talking Heads have never really been my thing. I know the big hits but haven’t ever delved into a full album, so I was kinda hoping this would change my opinion on them and give me something new to be into. Sadly it did not. The sort of frantic shouting vocal style just sort of stresses me out. The instrumentals can be pretty funky though. But overall, it won’t have me rushing to listen to them any more than I would’ve (or wouldn’t have) before. 2/5
Sophie - I like a bit of Kate Bush but I don’t think I’d listen to anything on this other than the ones I already knew (Cloudbusting & Running Up That Hill). I find that I like Kate Bush songs rather than albums in general so that checks out. Still enjoyable though! 3/5
Sophie - I knew Deceptacon going in, but I think that was an anomaly for me. I want to like this album more than I do, but the style just doesn’t do it for me. The sort of screaming thing isn’t working for me. I do think they are cool though, just from a distance for me. 2/5
Sophie - I expected to enjoy this but it was kind of only ok. I like Wu Tang Clan but I think they only work for me when a couple of songs are sprinkled into a playlist, I don’t think I can do a whole album. The songs kinda blended into one for me. I wouldn’t rush to revisit it. 2/5
Sophie - Another band I only really know by name. Never actually listened to anything by them. I enjoyed this, although I can’t say I found any song particularly distinct. But somehow I found it fun to listen to. Classic 90s grunge style. 3/5
Sophie - ehhhhhhhhh
Sophie - There is not a single need for them to have any songs clocking in at anything over 4 minutes. The style just doesn’t work for me. I’m not a massive Come On Eileen fan, but there’s a reason it’s the only song I know… 1/5
Sophie - I wouldn’t call this my favourite thing ever, but it was enjoyable enough. Kind of Bowie like at points. I can’t even tell if I knew Suede before this or not. Either way, this album was on the better end of ok for me. 3/5
Sophie - Why is every album on this list 4 songs yet the length is like 40 minutes? Again, maybe background music but I certainly wouldn’t be putting it on in my home. Not bad music though, just not my style. 2/5
Sophie - This is an album I am very familiar with. I don’t listen to Taylor Swift much these days but I had my time with her. This album is just fun, maybe every song isn’t a lyrical masterpiece or deeply profound, but who cares? It’s fun to listen to, especially when you haven’t heard it for a while. 3/5
