Three men with the same surname (unrelated) came together to create an album drawing from their Songhoy heritage, however, don't be mistaken - it is a rock album, as the guitar riffs often make the songs in the album. The cultural and political context of the album is both devastating and inspiring. After an islamic oppressor forbids any music, creating such an album is both a celebration of the heritage and a resistance to those who want to silence those who sing. Favourite songs: Petit Metier, Jolie, Desert Melodie. Songhoy Blues blend the ethnic rhythms with a traditional rock sound to create a transformative sound that is as unique, as it is welcomed.
