Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
May 13 2026

Three men with the same surname (unrelated) came together to create an album drawing from their Songhoy heritage, however, don't be mistaken - it is a rock album, as the guitar riffs often make the songs in the album. The cultural and political context of the album is both devastating and inspiring. After an islamic oppressor forbids any music, creating such an album is both a celebration of the heritage and a resistance to those who want to silence those who sing. Favourite songs: Petit Metier, Jolie, Desert Melodie. Songhoy Blues blend the ethnic rhythms with a traditional rock sound to create a transformative sound that is as unique, as it is welcomed.

A classic with high highs. More symbolic than I expected. Themes of locality and freedom. Even though the whole album is raw and authentic, I found some of the songs difficult to connect to. Vocals are great. Guitars are great. Must have been a phenomenal live band. Imagine hearing Free Bird live... "Train roll on, roll on 'Cause my baby's gone I'm riding my blues, babe" Favourite songs: Tuesday's Gone, Free Bird

Django Django by Django Django
May 18 2026

Nice production, interesting ideas, however, it's a bit messy and unfocused. A bit bloated. Nice soundtrack for a roadtrip in Sedona or getting high with your friends. Not my cup of tea, but I can appreciate the artistry.

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
May 19 2026

Beautiful melodies and poetic lyrics. However, the falsettos didn't work for me at all. which impacted the enjoyment quite a lot. Overall, quite a few solid songs but not a lot of standouts. "Blind man running through the light of the night With an answer in his hand Come on down to the river of sight And you can really understand"
