I really liked the album cover, so I wanted to like this album. I usually enjoy alternative rock, but this felt choppy and raw in a decidedly negative way. Most of all, I disliked the voice of the male lead singer, though I did enjoy the occasional female vocals and even liked a few songs. Overall, this was not a great album for me.

Listened to this right after Pixies' Surfer Rosa, not too into the raw and ugly rock of this era. Some songs weren't bad, but the album is overall hard to listen to, the lyrics are mediocre, and the vibe is altogether too fast-paced in-your-face.

Not bad, but not great either. A lot of skippable nonsense, with a few solid songs. My first Beatles album, and I had extreme fatigue by the time I got to Disc 2. I'm no stranger to long albums or songs, but they need to be worth it, and this album was most certainly not.

I liked the little voice intro and outro, cute contrast to the album itself. A lot of grunge, but not too much yelling. Not bad.

Having Santana on the opening track just automatically bumps this album to a 4. I don't make the rules. Otherwise, nice and smooth.

Classic, classic, classic. I was lucky enough to see Illmatic's 30th anniversary concert a few years back and it was amazing. Cold and clean lyrics, good beat, timeless rap album. Nas taking rappers to a new plateau, although rap is slow, his rhyming is a vitamin held without a capsule.

Like Ani DiFranco if she was more country bop. Not complaining, though, I love Ani DiFranco and I love her evil twin, Country Ani DiFranco aka Lucinda Williams. I liked this album a lot because I'm a sucker for a good banjo and Lucinda was way, way too cool for 1998. Or now. Or any time, really. I liked this album a lot.

Feels very classic, but I just can't get behind the lyrics. Not unenjoyable to listen to, but I'm not jumping up and down to tell anyone about this album. I have very white mashed potato feelings about it.

Feels like a warm hug, like listening to your favorite song that you never knew was your favorite song. Perfect name because this album is steaming, soothing hot tea on a cold evening. Cat Stevens' voice makes me feel like I can see the light in the cracks where the blinds let it in.

Most definitely my favorite album off this list so far that I hadn't already listened to.

Re-listen, solid album but hard to rate after Idlewild (as in I'm a lot more picky now).

One of my mom's favorite albums so felt quite nice to listen to some of her music. I really liked it! Very classic angsty rock.

Timely since I had to complete an 84-question assignment to this club music. Not bad for what is is, but not my flavor.

Did not finish, Jesus. Barely made it past the first song, actually. But what can one really expect from a band called Butthole Surfers?
