1001 Albums Summary

I think Station to Station is still my favorite Bowie album. Overall, I’m glad to have given this a relisten. Listening after a decade, I can tell my tastes have moved further away from glam rock and the ballads don’t hit the same as they did when I was a teenager. That being said, it’s still an incredible record that I can really appreciate as the launching point of Bowie’s career to start taking bigger swings.

Incredibly important album for me getting into industrial music even if I didn’t realize it at the time. I love Trent’s emphasis on atmosphere on Downward Spiral. The production and composition on this record are captivating and serves the album’s concept well. Truly the only thing that hadn’t aged well for me is some of the lyrics, but then again the whole genre of industrial is built on angsty and over the top lyrics so in that context I don’t think it really hinders the experience. Not everything we listen to needs to try and win a Pulitzer.

Over 30 years old now and you could’ve convinced me some of these tracks came out today. An incredible record and understandably influential for music with synthesizers.

Boomerslop. Just listen to Muddy Waters or Howlin’ Wolf.
