Paul Simon by Paul Simon
Jul 01 2026

Loved this album. Loved being introduced to Paul Simon and then following his journey through music. Will need to listen again as I know the lyrics deserve more attention. Perfect alt folkey rock genre with the 60's psychadelic dreamy influence and hints of other genres too. A real 'raw' musician with loads of fun sounds. You can tell he could create beautiful sound from not very much - hence a timeless classic that will hold up across the ages for capturing the unique creativity of music from it's point in time.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Jul 02 2026

Good musician - enjoyed how instruments really get a spotlight. Piano, violin and a choir was cool. His voice is great. Didn't pay too much attention to lyrics. Found it started sounding 'samey' by the end. Lots of slow ballad parts then belting passionate parts which started melding together into one long song instead of an album.

Really nice to listen to a whole album of his. Really adds a romantic lense to life. Poetic, moving, passionate and talented whilst excelling at both the hype and chill end of jazz, funk and soul. Can't believe he died age 26 before sitting on the dock of the bay got released!

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Jul 06 2026

Resisted listening because >2 hours but was shocked to find I only noticed the length when I was two songs away from finishing. Enjoyed biking with a soundtrack of determination, rebellion and youthful pride. Probably won't listen to much more PF but I can understand the psychadelic hype. Just a bit weird and jarring at points for it to be in my usual repertoire.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Jul 07 2026

Didn't finish it. Admire the spunk, passion and rebelliousness of her sound and clearly she was an icon of her generation... but the music isn't for me. I liked the instrumental parts but her voice grated on me and I don't love 'shouty' rock music

Enjoyed this! Old school hiphop combined with live instruments and a sort of trippy, jazzy vibe and really nice back up vocals. I didn't like his voice at first but the album really comes together super nicely with loads of quirky elements, jazzy beats, funky instruments and weird sounds. Very creative.

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Jul 09 2026

Adore this album. Perfect for 30° summer chilled afternoon. Made me feel happy for life. Didn't feel the 'rock' element as stated in the title. Pure timeless soul and I'm not mad in the slightest

Calenture by The Triffids
Jul 10 2026

Not for me this album. Didn't listen much so maybe I'm not being fair but didn't want to waste good music time listening to something that didn't immediately appeal

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Jul 13 2026

Yeah was nice - enjoyed the sound as much as you can despite not understanding the lyrics. Not a top choice for me.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Jul 14 2026

I wanted to not like this for some reason but I actually enjoyed it. Biking through the British summer fields with psychadelic surf harmonies created quite a dream like feel. Nice to contextualise the "wouldn't it be nice" and "god only knows" songs out of them being used commercially too.

I'm just not a grunge rock intense shouty kind of music gal

A Short Album About Love by The Divine Comedy
Jul 17 2026

Actively did not like this album. Lyrics were terrible - super cliché and the whole album screamed 'white man with nothing better to do than think we are all interested in his yearnings'. Nothing interesting to say about love or anything to inspire, inform etc. I think it's maybe supposed to be comical but again, that was missed on me.

Ten by Pearl Jam
Jul 20 2026

Again not a grungey loud shouty band gal

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Jul 21 2026

Almost skipped it as I didn't like the first couple of songs. Midway I ended up liking a couple. Reminds me of the ABBA ladies minus the men. Probably wouldn't listen again but enjoyed in the moment.

C'est Chic by CHIC
Jul 22 2026

Loved this - funky, fun 'le chic'. Listened to the radio after for hours so clearly a vibe. Upbeat main character energy
