Jul 18 2026

Well this album is very nostalgic to me for reasons that won't be discussed here 👿 I wonder if they knew what they had made, they seem like such chill dudes I don't know if they can recognize their own genius.

Stankonia by OutKast
Jul 18 2026

I really appreciate Outkasts unique, musically informed approach to hip hop. Unfortunately I just can't stand cocky ass rap. Mixed in with the genius I have to hear about how much better at rap you are compared to the other rappers and also how excellently you can get your dick sucked.

Achtung Baby by U2
Jul 19 2026

I have never understood U2. Some of their singles are a bit catchy but it doesn't match their status in my opinion. They are the corniest most self indulgent band to ver receive universal acclaim. Also Bono is clearly a narcissist and I don't know why he doesn't give the whole planet the collective ick.

I've heard this album many times! It is foundational punk, may pu k purists these days downplay it's significance but I feel that just hindsight. Members of the band, Johnny in particulary, have turned out to be right wing pricks that don't embody the punk ideal AT ALL and other bands came right along to carry the mantle of being just as important such as the Ramones, The Clash, or the New York Dolls. It's still one of THE 1977 records and a study of punk history is woefully incomplete without it.

Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
Jul 21 2026

I had never heard this album before. It is very musically competent but nothing about it reaches out and grabs me. I read that this band was assembled and funded by a dutch millionaire investor, it's no wonder it feels a bit manufactured to me. I will say, this is a remarkably good recording even by today's standards let alone 1974. One of the best mixes I've ever heard.

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
Jul 22 2026

This is un inoffensive little pop rock album, I was wishing the whole time that it didn't sound like it was recorded in a soup can. Weird choices of vocal effects and mixing in my opinion. Not sure what makes it legendary it's just not that exciting for 1977.

Close To You by Carpenters
Jul 23 2026

I do not understand this type of music. I know that there are people who like softer music than I do and that's totally understandable but stuff like this and other things that were happening at that time are so rife with platitudes and meaningless sugary romantic nonsense. It has no emotional weight whatsoever. Never mind that it's also musically quite flat it doesn't challenge the senses in any way. I can't imagine wanting to create this at a time when rock and roll was young and punk rock was being born and proto-metal was happening and other exciting and transgressive forms of music were taking the world by storm. Drugstore music.

Risque by CHIC
Jul 24 2026

Obviously very important disco record. Creating a sound that is so familiar now it's hard to imagine what it was like at the time when it was new.

I've tried this record several times, Pj is very cool and just seems like the sort of thing I should like but I has never hit for me. A couple of the songs sounds like maybe they would be a promising demo of a great song but never quite worked them to that point. It just feels flat to me, musically.

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Jul 26 2026

One of my favorite musical styles ever ever, the quirky girl singer songwriter,.was born right here. Without Joni there is no Alanis, no Regina Spektor.

Jul 28 2026

This album is so ubiquitous people still hit new t shirts of the cover 53 years later. This was transformative and it must have sounded like it was from absolute out space at the time. Nothing else like it.

Eternally Yours by The Saints
Jul 30 2026

Interesting record. I had never heard of it at all but early harcore and ska are prophesized here. The problem I had with it is it's utterly hookless, just no memorable parts stayed with me after the record was over.
