1001 Albums Summary

For there to be so many hits on this album despite Julian Casablanca’s’ low-energy delivery is such a testament to the orchestration. Very good.

Some garage rock, some Beach Boys, some Beatles, some classic rock, some jazz (that piano solo!!) and some noise music flair. It flies in every mode. The fact that it’s so hard to categorize makes it an outstandingly fun listen. Simultaneously, I do appreciate an album that has a slightly better sense of itself.

76 minutes of the best guitar I’ve ever heard.

Need to listen to this again. Back half felt like a perfect album. First half bored me. Too clean for punk?

There’s four outstanding songs on this album (Que ‘Onda Guerro, Missing, Earthquake Weather, Broken Drum). The rest are pretty easy to dislike and in some cases make fun of.

Deserves its title as the best instrumental hip hop album of all time. Gets better with every listen too! Was going to rank at 4 but I think it’s closer to 5 now. The long cuts are just so good. (I maybe need to change my rating scale when so few albums on this list are genuinely bad.)

Can’t imagine how expensive this must be on Discogs. Excellent and innovative. Some Chinese influences? Some cuts would make for outstanding needle drops. But hard to hear too many echos of this in modern music (at least what I listen to) and not an album I’m itching to play again.

Stunningly short for a full album. Keep on Chooglin’ is so so good. Rest is good, but did not impress me as much as some of CCR’s other cuts that I love.

Not sure what genre this it but it feels like the pinnacle of the form. Not the genre for me though.

Feels very Talking Heads inspired. I love the synths.
