This is my FIRST album of this challenge :D
However, I have to admit, it really doesn't stick with me. I feel like with the first half of this album, I tried too hard to like some songs, but I really don't resonate with the indie-rock that this album goes for. While the intro seems like a solid first song for this type of album, with its rampant guitars, I personally don't like the vocals that much. I prefer strong, female powerhouses rather than the typical British band-style that this album has The song-writing is alright on some songs, but often seems like it just repeats a core phrase of the song, and after the first 5/6 tracks I completely lost momentum with this album, and it kind of all sounded the same and redundant to me.
Favourites: Jacqueline - Very rampant and energy inducing, The Dark of the Matinee, Take me Out
TLDR: I dont like indie, I dont like rock, and this album did not change that perspective
As they say on 'Memories Can't Wait': 'It isn't what you hoped for is it?'
I do think the album is significantly better than the Franz Ferdinand album, maybe its because its more tame on the guitar riffs, and the song-writing and subject matter is WAY more diverse than just repeating a refrain for half a song, so there's that.
I'm just not a fan of the vocals in sorrrrrry

They are REALLY tryna get me to like Rock, aren't they? But I think it's finally worked.
This album is one of the most conceptually interesting I've ever listened to - and it felt more like a musical journey then an album because of that.
In short: The speaker hypes Yoshimi up to fight a robot, the robot KILLS ITSELF after falling in love with Yoshimi, the speaker has an existential few songs, learns from future him he's gonna die soon, and we're on a hot air balloon to heaven. It is really interesting, and learning that the pink robot may symbolize cancer adds another tragic yet beautiful layer to this album.
The fact that this album can be interpreted in so many ways is just amazing for me

Overall, will I spin this afew more times? Definitely. Does is mean I love rock now? Hell no. Its not my thing but its pretty fuckin good. 4/5 for me.

The first 3 tracks of this album were amazing. Troubled Over Water & Cecilia are amazing - BOTW's just beautiful, and Cecilia is hilarious
The first half of this album is solid, but after that I just kind of lose interest. It's not bad, but I'm just not engaged. Again, not my primary genre of choice. But some songs are quite calming, like the final song.
So for that reason I think 3/5 is pretty fair

Sister Ray in itself is just an EXPERIENCE. I don't know whether for better or worse, but definitely an experience. Do I think it was a bit too long? Yes. Still, an experience.
Lady' Godiva's Operation is really solid, and so it the title track.
This is just the 60s in a nutshell ngl; We got heroin, we got rock, we got sex, we got lobotomies, this is just a 60s time capsule. And at only 6 songs my interest never really waned, aside from Here She Comes Now, which is just the title repeated basically. I think Imma give this a 4, considering I liked it more than 'Fear of Music' but its the kind of 4 I'm rarely gonna listen to again, but you know what? That's okay. But I do think everyone needs to hear Sister Ray atleast once.
For an album that is completely NOT my genre, I have to say I didn't expect to like it this much, but I do have a feeling if I keep listening I will just get sick of the fucking guitars, they are SO LOUD. But yeah-
This album HAS to be ATLEAST 4 stars
Nick Drake is simply a poet, a tragic poet at that. His songs are literal poetry, and unfortunately their cynical / depressive nature sadly helps understand why he died so young.
The song-writing is incredible. The instrumentals are incredible.
While I'm not fully a fan of Nick's vocals, I can't complain that much.
I'm definitely gonna dive into this man's other albums.
