1001 Albums Summary

To be honest I loved this. Both tame and experimental. Really great album. Felt sincere which is not something I expected from this band. Not sure why.

Hard for me to understand how this is distinct from other similar jazz around the same time since I have listened to so little of it. It's good? I don't know that I'll return to it. A few moments I liked, otherwise it felt like everything started kind of subtle, went to 11, then came back down. Rinse repeat.

Really don't ever need to hear this again.

The longer this went on the less I liked it. Pretty sure I like Dire Straits? Can't deny Sultans, but as a whole this was...pretty bad.

Fail to see what's interesting about this beyond the occasional jam. At best it was boring. At worst it felt indulgent and self-important. Don't need to hear it again.

Good album. Interesting story. I love the guitars. The songs themselves didn't blow me away, but I liked them.

Outside of the hits, I found this a little underwhelming.

She's a great vocalist but these songs oscillate between forgettable and terrible. "You look like a movie, you sound like a song." Compelling stuff.

I really liked the heavily detuned guitars and synths but otherwise I hated this. Kind of feels like essential listening for f*** boys 2026 (derogatory).

I probably won't come back to this album, but I liked it. Songs are pretty iconic.

Really inspiring. I loved the long instrumentals at the beginning of many of the songs. In my mind this band was always a meme of itself, but I actually found the production and vocal performances to be slightly understated in a really endearing way.

It's fine as a Simon & Garfunkel/Beatles rip-off. These guys are yet to impress me. Feels largely masturbatory.

First song, best song? There's a lot to enjoy here, and some of it exhausts me.

The most interesting parts of all of these songs are the samples. Apparently this album "introduced a lot of people to electronic music." Music made with electronics? Sounds more like a Logic remix with some overdubs, disrespectfully.

It's good and definitely has a few fresh ideas that are easy to appreciate. On first listen it didn't grab me, but I enjoyed it. Suspect it could grow on me.

Being around for this it is hard to give it a truly objective rating. But is that what these reviews are about? I say not! Loved it. Production and melodies are excellent throughout. Never boring. Felt like each non-hit had the same care and attention as the hits, from pen to pressing.

Idk, it's got something. I'm not sure I've ever loved his voice. Production feels a little sterile to me. The hits still hit though, so YMMV.

Maybe it's the production that is throwing me off, but with the exception "Acknowledge Your Own History" I found this remarkably unmemorable.

It's good. Wreaks of 2001. Didn't blow me away, but I can't imagine a world without the hits. The simple production is great. Cool, understated mix.

If you're going to make this kind of music you should try to make this music.
