Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro

Something I would not have listened to without this list. Actually really good fun - tuneful, exuberant and generally pretty likeable lyrics. Good for you, Scandinavian punks!

Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek & The Dominos

Not returning to this because I hated it the first time and life’s too short. As I recall: banal lyrics and self-indulgent noodling. My rule of thumb is that if Eric Clapton is involved, it’s not for me.

Tommy by The Who

Not revisiting because I remember being unimpressed.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Oct 15 2026

I had listened to this before, but liked it a bit more on this occasion. I don’t think I will ever be a massive Stones enthusiast though.

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Oct 16 2026

Obviously pioneering but, not having meant much to me at the time, it doesn't really hold much for me now. Doubt I'll return to it.

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Oct 17 2026

Prompted to listen to this again! Easy to see why Springsteen became so successful. It's very spirited, honest and likeable.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Oct 18 2026

An achingly beautiful album. I had forgotten how lovely it is.

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Oct 19 2026

Already in my library. An album I like and must return to.

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Oct 20 2026

Hard rock and metal is never really going to be my bag, and I will always find Led Zep to be slightly ludicrous, this did bear up well to a second listen.

Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro
Oct 21 2026

Something I would not have listened to without this list. Actually really good fun - tuneful, exuberant and generally pretty likeable lyrics. Good for you, Scandinavian punks!

Elastica by Elastica
Oct 22 2026

It's...fine. There are one or two bangers which are evocative of student years for me. But beyond that not much that holds my attention. And Vaseline is a stinker.

Kenya by Machito
Oct 23 2026

Highly enjoyable in itself, and as a glimpse into a different time and place.

With The Beatles by Beatles
Oct 24 2026

Already the songwriting is an improvement on Please Please Me. Stating the obvious but it’s easy to see why this helped cement them as a phenomenon and not just a flash in the pan.

Blood, Sweat & Tears by Blood, Sweat & Tears
Oct 25 2026

I knew some of this without having heard of them. Enjoyable. I prefer the Shirley Bassey cover of Spinning Wheel though.

Arise by Sepultura
Oct 26 2026

Clearly a lot of people love this sort of thing, but it’s not for me.

Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek & The Dominos
Oct 27 2026

Not returning to this because I hated it the first time and life’s too short. As I recall: banal lyrics and self-indulgent noodling. My rule of thumb is that if Eric Clapton is involved, it’s not for me.

Tommy by The Who
Oct 28 2026

Not revisiting because I remember being unimpressed.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Oct 29 2026

More of a 3½ than a 4 but I want to remind myself to return to it. I'd forgotten that it has some slower tempo stuff and quite a different feel to Parliament.

Picture Book by Simply Red
Oct 30 2026

Somewhat surprised at how little I liked this. I was prepared to concede that, unfashionable as Simply Red are these days, it was still a good album. In truth though I find the combination of 80s production and lacklustre tunes to be rather tedious. Had no idea there would be a Talking Heads cover (Heaven) but it proved to be pretty inoffensive - neither great nor terrible.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Oct 31 2026

Returning to this one, and I did rather enjoy it. Rating would be 3.5 if I had the choice.

Vespertine by Björk
Nov 01 2026

Going to need a few more listens to appreciate, but already quite lovely. I was amused by the one star review from the listener (who I think is primarily a rock and metal fan) - that person *really* didn't gel with it. Each to their own!

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
Nov 02 2026

It's silly, but I rather enjoy it. Again, would be a 3.5 if I had the option.
