Killing Joke
Killing JokeI had never heard of these guys, but I was glad to have listened to this. Ahead of their time sound-wise, hard to believe this was 1980. A good mixture of punk and more melodic. Elements of the Cure or NIN in there.

Very pleasant listening. It's an interesting combination of instruments and genres they normally aren't heard in. Some of the songs remind me of songs in the style of Apocalyptica (who came much later, but I heard first). I wonder if these people were an influence.
Fairly generic 80s synth music for the most part. Boring to me overall. "Sunrise" and "Elegia" were surprises though, both solid songs. Sunrise had a stronger backbone throughout the song, and Elegia was a dark and interesting instrumental. Vocals were probably the weakest part - way too soft and crooning.
Very fun to listen to. A good mixture of high energy and interesting melodies. Lots of fun guitar solos. Only one traditionally popular song on here (Killer Queen), the rest were new to me but very good. Very solid album!
Not really my thing. The last song "Fame" was the only one that felt like it had any soul to it. The rest was fairly generic to me. This may be a result of me not listening to it "in the moment" and thus appreciating any novelty or inspiration given to future artists.
This may have been truly transformative for the time, but to my ear listening this for the first time it sounds like generic bubble gum pop-y music. Very much not a fan. Each song sounds exactly like the others. Melodies and lyrics are uninteresting and empty. I feel like I'm watching a commercial. Maybe Pepsi? "Money that's what I want" could be the commercial music for some new stock brokerage. Just cutesy background filler noise.
Who knew that every song having "(feat. so-and-so)" was not invented recently! Lively, catchy music from a bygone era. Overall a solid listening experience. Makes me want to do swing dancing!

Not really my thing. Most of the songs just seem... I don't know, noisy? Lyrical content didn't hook me either. This feels like it was a part of the 90's grunge movement but didn't quite have the charm or innovative sounds of other bands like Soundgarden, Bush, etc.

A wide range of sounds and genre mix-ins, pretty interesting. I had never heard of these guys before. Smooth listening, catchy melodies.
Smooth jazz so far. Enjoyable. I'm not enough of a jazz aficionado to tell if this is groundbreaking or not. Sounds like how most jazz sounds to me.

I recognized quite a few popular songs on here, so they have to get credit for that. Overall not bad. I think in the right environment this would be fun music, but sitting at my desk during work isn't that environment.
Catchy enough album. Highlight was clearly "The Passenger". Starting to blend into the "70's/80's rock" pile though, not sure anything about this really stuck out to me.
Solid album. Maybe I'm a bit biased because the last several have been kind of same-y but it was a refreshing 90s hiphop album. Lyrically the songs were interesting stories, and her voice had some good soul elements to it in a number of tracks.
It was alright. Not really my thing but I could appreciate it all the same. The lyrics felt really apathetic which I think is part of that whole grunge thing, but eh just makes it feel boring imo.
It's the lady from Love Actually! Not bad, pretty easy to listen to. It's not my "jam" genre certainly but was a pleasant listening experience. She has a pretty unique voice.
Very pleasant listening from a bygone era. I could see this being a nice thing to have a little private dance to or making/eating dinner together.
First time there has been a movie soundtrack on here, interesting. End result seems to be more instrumental-only tracks. They all seem to have a unifying musical theme and are "unobtrusive", though it's hard to put into words. I think I might have guessed this was a soundtrack as a result. Overall very pleasant background listening music.
This was okay. Second album by Sonic Youth which is a bit disappointing. I guess there are a number of artist repeats on here which is surprising to me given over a hundred years of the world's music but whatever. It was about the same imo as the last one.
I've heard the name Coltrane before but never listened to any of his music. Very pleasant music. I'm not a huge fan of jazz but maybe I was in the right mood or something, this really was good!
Overall pleasant enough but not really my jam. Bittersweet Symphony is obviously the big hit here and stands out from the rest, which all sounded similar to me. At some point I found myself thinking "I should just be listening to Third Eye Blind for music of this era."
Meh. Not my thing.
Pretty solid album, very smooth and chill and easy to listen to. Good lyrical content. Really enjoyed it.
A very strange album. This was probably more interesting live where you could also watch it. Lots of improvisation, drum solos that went on for a very long time, etc. Otherwise it was enjoyable to listen to. Smoke on the Water obviously the most recognizable as the first song everyone learns on guitar
