Don't know anything about this before listening to it, which is nice.
I'm already running a day late!
Born on the Bayou. Sounds quite 'derivative' - but perhaps just because its quite traditional 'blues rock' sound. Doesn't do a lot for me to start with. Perhaps this kind of thing was more striking at the time, and just seems a bit cliche now?
(Apparently this is 'swamp rock', but "fake" - they are from California, apparently!).
Bootleg. Similar
The musics good, though - nice melodies. Maybe it would grow on me.
Nice growly lead singer.
Graveyard train is too slow for me. maybe too 'trad' blues, if that's what this is?
steamtrain 'whistly' harmonica bit is fun, but drags on too long.
Good golly miss molly: is fun rock-n-roll. Bit of a relief after the one before. Good solo.
Penthouse pauper: bluesy
Proud Mary: i've vaguely heard of this, so i was interested. Immediately recognised it, but wouldn't have been able to put a name to it. 'big wheel keeps on turning'. This is truly a great song.
keep on chooglin' - very bluesy.
nearly gave it 4. Perhaps i'll regret that later. - if it wasn't for proud mary it would definitely be 2 or 3. I ended being quite pleased albums were not so long in those days!
Genesis and 'let there be light' did nothing for me.
D.A.N.C.E. is a bit more fun with the 'choir' thing / little girl voice thing going on. Its catchy.
Newjack is just annoying.
Phantom is better: at least it has a bit of tune on top of the heavy beats. Pt2 has a fairly arbitrary organ-like stuff on top, which doesn't particularly help : doesn't go as well with the beats.
Valentine passed me by a bit
Tthhee Parrtty has a fun cheeky voice-over thing going on - from let get this part started. Bit of bounce to it.
DVNO - ok
Stress- quite like the 'rough' scratchy thing
Waters of Nazareth - uggh. bit too 'hard house'-y for me
One minute to midnight - quite liked this - a bit more sci-fi digi-pop going on!
I think this is going to be much more my type of thing! Although perhaps not perhaps stretching my taste much beyond 90s indie! - I don't know this album, but I know later ride albums a bit.
Looking forward to it.
Seagull - not as melodic as I expected. Maybe a bit too much going on, musically.
Kaleidoscope - the youtube version seems a bit muted. But nice. Better with the volume up a bit higher!
In a different place - love the start. rest is fine! Nothing special - so shoegazey it drifts past a bit
Polar bear. like intro again . Gets a bit same-y.
Dreams burn down - passed me by a bit.
Decay - don't like the singing as much, and a bit sub-Joy Division.
Paralysed - stats off nice and noodly. Generally nice feel to it - just slightly more up-beat. I think I just like this singer's voice (Bell ratehr than Gardener apparently).
Vapour Trail - apparently this is the single. Jangly - quite like it, but still not love.
other trakcs were 'bonus' on various formats (CD and re-issue). Only half-listened to these.
Obviously I know quite a few of the tracks.
Drive - like it a lot.
Try not to breathe - good too.
Sidewinder sleeps tonight - as good as I remember.
everybody hurts- yep.
instrumental bit - why?
sweetness follows - didn't thikn i knew this one, but it is familiar. I like it.!
Monty gets a raw deal, passed me by a bit - very polite
ignoreland - didn't know this one. Its fine, but nothing exceptional.
star me kitten: slightly annoying.
man on the moon - immediately recognisable. I like this one a lot.
nightswimming - nice if a bit dull. would be nothing without Stipe being so good.
Find the river: another one i didn't think i knew, but did. Nice! I really like this.
Would have been 5 if it wasn't for the filler in the middle!
This should be fun - the only track I know is 'can i kick it', on a quick glance.
Aagh - i've been listening to a messed-up version on youtube.
push it along: classic sound.
Luck of Lucien - silly rhymes.
After hours: quite like it, but don't love it.
Footprints: alright
i left my wallet in el segundo - mexican thingy - 'what a man'.
public enemy - not as nice.
bonita applebaum- prety weird.
youthful expression
rhythm (devoted to the art of moving butts)
Mr Muhammed
Ham and Eggs - just silly. (about being veggie?)
Go ahead in the rain
Description of a fool
They are obviously having fun.
can i kick it: fun! Not at all polite. Quite silly.
3 stars - none of the tracks are as good as the familiar one.
This will be different, at least.
Samba de Bencao - nice voice.
August day song -
Sem Contentao
Mais Feliz
So nice - somehow nice to have in English! Sad :-)
Samba e Amour
missing:
Tanto Tempo - found this somewhere else. very nice.
ALguem - cant find this one
Lonely - done
Bananeira - done : with a bit more beat to start. Nice change. Apparently about a tree. upbeat throughout
close your eyes - doesn't do it for me at all.
no return - on a special edition: a cover of the kinks apparently! slightly forced into a bossa nova thing - actually, theoriginal is bossa nova too! Show's how muh i know.
In the end, I liked it a bit, but its not really for me.
cool! I think I know most of this album anyway. I might even have it somewhere.
five years: I guess i've listened to the Seu Jorge version, but actually this (remastered 2012 version) is much better! - but maybe a little slow in the middle.
soul love:
moonage daydream: I like this, but the middle horn-y bit is a bit annoying.
starman: great
it ain't easy: perhaps a bit weaker than some others.
Lady Stardust: good
Star: good
Hang On to Yourself: chugg chug
Ziggy Stardust: Obviously pretty amazing.
Suffragette City: quite like it
Rock 'n' Roll Suicide: very much like it
The tracks are all a bit more jazz-y than I remember. I went for 5, but tempted by 4.
Good times, bad times: short and rockin'
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You : more blues-y, the quiet bit is a bit silly sounding nowadays.
You Shook Me: blues shuffle thing with some screaming. Doesn't do a lot for me.
Dazed and Confused: I like this much better - maybe a bit more modern rock.
Your Time Is Gonna Come - far out organ, Man. Recognise it when guitar stuff kicks in. This one is good.
Black Mountain Side - pointless banjo
Communication Breakdown - this is. a bit more like it! rocking.
I Can't Quit You Baby. - very blues
How Many More Times - quite fun. I think I like this. Sounds good blues-y but a bit harder
candy says: singing not great. surprised how soft this. Sounds very '60s. I like the lyrics
What Goes On: slightly more interesting.
Some Kinda Love: very velvet underground; almost epoken word
Pale Blue Eyes: this is nice. Again kike the lyrics more than the music
Jesus: yep. Pretty nice.
Beginning to See the Light: i liked this one quite a lot
I'm Set Free: I liked this one until a quite annoying hank marvin-style guitar solo.
That's the Story of My Life - yep. Its nce.
The Murder Mystery - experimental and wierd. Not really any fun to listen to.
After Hours - nivce. faux naive lyrics
Know this album well.
Some great stuff: queen Jane, like a rolling stone, Tom thumb blues. Desolation row. Some I'm not so keen on (fr a Buick, balad of a thin man
Never heard of this one, which is nice.
Country!
The grand tour; absolute standard country. I quite like it, but maybe will get bored.
Darlin' - slow, lovely weepy guitars.
pass me by: again, lovely guitar sound.
she'll love the one she's with: slow but pretty.
once you've had the best
weatherman:
borrowed angel: quite like this, but still very trad.
she told me so: sad chords
mary don't go 'round:
who will I be loving now: too slow
our private live: has a 'cartoon' feel to it.
I liked it more than i'd like to admit!
It's on - ok?
freak on a leash - nice start. Different. Then degenerates into some unpleasant madness!
got the life - not sure i like this much. Very shouty, gets better when it goes on.
dead bodies everyhere: just a bit unpleasant.
children of the korn - pretty out there too.
BBK: I like the start of this.
Pretty - not bad!
All in the family : nasty. Homophobic?
reclaim my place - also not very nice
Justin
Seed
Cameltosis
my gift to you
Didn't enjoy it much but I can see what they are trying to do
Not sure what i'll make of this. At least albums were short in those days!
"Prowler" - like it more than Korn, at least. More melodic
quite enjoying, not as nasty as the imagery suggests is should be - some tunes in there.
"Remember Tomorrow"
"Running Free"
"Phantom of the Opera" - dragged a bit.
"Transylvania" (instrumental) - didn't notice this really.
"Strange World": almost a nice song strummy, although the sinigng isn't amazing, of course.
"Charlotte the Harlot" - a bit silly.
"Iron Maiden" - silly again.
I know this album a bit already.
where do the children play: nice song./
hard headed woman: good, but not a classic perhaps
wild world: a great song
sad lisa:
miles from nowhere:
but i might die tonight:
longer boats - bit repetitive.
into white - bit too soft
on the road to find out:
father and son:
tea for the tillerman:
I know most of the songs. New ones to me:
Keep the Customer Satisfied - actually quite nice, but not exactly a classic.
So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright - drippy.
Baby Driver
Why Don't You Write Me
Bye Bye Love
Song for the asking.
The only living boy in new york and the boxer are amazing songs, of course.
quite a lot is enjoyable. Waterfalls is really good.
I can see why people are into this kind of thing.
This is different - ambient electronica.
Listened to most of it, but didn't take any account of track boundaries or anything like that.
Quite like it, but doesn't do that much for me either. Sometimes a bit like beepy-easy-listening.
Heavy dude! Just not my cup of tea, really - it all seems just a bit silly.
surprisingly old-fashioned sounding and quite hippy.
not sure i've ever listened to a disco album. fun, but just ok-ish.
never heard of this, which is cool.
I like this mostly quite a lot.
Heartland is good.
quite enjoyed this - particularly the more upbeat ones: I can't be satisfied and 'the blues had a baby named rock'n'roll.
less so the very slow ones with more harmonica e.g. deep down in Florida.
crosseyed cat is fun
quite like this. Not all of it super-catchy.
a lot is quite jazzy-
some of it just slightly annoying, like Oompa Radar
Utopia is good
fun i can see why he is famous, I guess. a lot of good tunes.
Lots of beautiful moments here, but in general just a bit overwrought for my taste. Takes itself just a bit seriously.
Liked it - some of it kid of washes over me a bit, but i can see why people rate it.
some beautiful tracks here - i'm not sorry, first of the gang, you know i couldn't last. Obviously the first signs of dubious politics and being generally unpleasant (...crashing bores, Irish blood, English heart etc., lazy dykes.. ).
A great voice and nice bluesy-rock tracks. Liked it a lot. Though its quite clearly the covers and songs written by other people are the strongest songs - bobby mcgee, trust me
Some of it i really like (Tom Sawyer, limelight).. much more than I expected: don't think i've listened to much prog rock before.. some is much too much (YYZ, the camera eye, witch hunt), I think its the more rocky ones I like better.
Mostly pretty fun.. though noticeable that the best tracks are covers!
I think I even bought this album. Now I only quite like it. Very 'polite' in retrospect.
some of it very nice, other bits a bit noodly jazz.
Not sure how much I enjoy this kind of thing. Quite nood-ly and mostly instrumental.
Express Yourself is a stand-out track. Otherwise stilll lots of fun, doesn't ssem to take itself remotely seriously.
very much enjoyed this nonsense ! i'd forgotten how good it is.
