Don't really know how to speak intelligently about jazz. But I liked this. Highlights: Pannonica; I Surrender, Dear; Bemsha Swing
11/16/21 - A lively listen. Title track is a heartbreaker. Insane that all music sounded like this in the 80s. Totally flat, plastic, hermetically sealed. Not a huge fan of her howl but the energy is contagious regardless.
12/14/21 - Good lord. The Autechre guys say they love this era of hip hop because it uses basically the same sonic palette as musique concrete. Left me feeling parched.
12/14/21 - Pleasant, a little unnerving
Didn't even attempt to finish this one. Sounds like the music that opens an edgier-than-average turn-of-the-millennium romcom. Dreadful.
12/14/21 - Wonderful, slinky, highly unobtrusive
11/22/21 Yes.... Wonderful.... a perfect day for this album. Introduction: Sumptuously orchestrated. A standout in it's own right. Hazy Jane II: The pulsing organ chords in the background remind me of a GAS song. Hypnotic. A deliciously queasy rollicker. At the Chime of a City Clock: "I see your trousers don't taper"... brutal diss.
11/23/21 Was not expecting something like this to pop up on the list. Very cool. Solos in "Desparate Cry" are wonderfully snaky. Mostly this type of metal is just exhausting to me. The latin flair was the only thing that made it even the least bit interesting.
