First album of this project!
1) Take a Bow: Really liked, gives Radiohead vibes.
2) Starlight: Much more its own, memorable jingle.
3) Supermassive Black Hole: Heavier rock, enjoy the vocals a lot here, favourite so far.
4) Map of the Problematique: Nice beat here, good flow.
5) Soldier's Poem: Slower and shorter than previous songs, but a nice break from the heavier songs and nice sound.
6) Invincible: Another slower one, but I like the building into more instruments, faster progression, always like songs like this.
7) Assassin: Heaviest rock so far, probably least favourite
8) Exo-Politics: Nothing of note for me here other than an engaging riff.
9) City of Delusion: Better progression than the past two songs and captures engagement again.
10) Hoodoo: Again, slower and tries to build but ultimately fails.
11) Knights of Cydonia: Bit of a different sound, more of an alien and western (?) vibe, liking this one much more than previous few songs. Ends in a satisfying conclusion.
12) Glorious: Quite a weak song to end on, could've been placed earlier since I like the song and it builds into something nice, but not as strong as previous song.
Overall, some good songs here that stand out but gets to be a bit samey in places and can definitely feel the influences of the Killers and Radiohead in Parts.
An album I'm already somewhat familiar with.
1) This Is: Intro track introducing freedom and feeding from the last album.
2) Freedom: Nice opening track, but nothing special.
3) If You Only Knew: Nice rhythm and backing vocals.
4) Break: Beats here are nice alongside intro jingle, good flow between vocals and instruments.
5) React: Short track, nothing to note.
6) A Day at the Races: Classic.
7) Remember His Name: Really nice beat, chaotic flow with samples and lyrics.
8) What's Golden: Perfect beat and flow, can tell why its the biggest song on the album.
9) Thin Line: Nice female vocals, smooth chorus
10) After School Special: Bland compared to the rest of the album
11) High Fidelity: Ok
12) Sum of Us: Brings my attention back, again really nice beat and accompanying vocals.
13) DDT: Another short track connecting the two.
14) One of Them: Not much of a fan, feels too repetitive.
15) Hey: Too samey for me.
16) I am Somebody: The beat is back! I AM SOMEBODY!
17) Acetate Prophets: Interesting and different from the album so far but not really my thing.
Overall this album has a few duds but it's heights save the album and it gives you that feeling that only classic hip-hop can.
1) My, My, Hey, Hey (Out of the Blue): "It's better to burn out than to fade away"
2) Thrasher: Calm country music, feels I'd listen to this when I'm 70.
3) Ride my Llama: picks up some speed but probably my least favourite on the album.
4) Pocahontas: Favourite song on here, love the message and slow rhythm.
5) Sail Away: Smoother with female voice and harmonica, works well.
6) Powderfinger: begins to descend into heavier rock
7) Welfare Mothers: Turns into pure rock after this point, especially this song.
8) Sedan Delivery: continuing into the rock
9) Hey, Hey, My, My (Into the Blue): Similar to last song, but in a rockier form and nice conclusion to the album.
There is some stuff I really like here, and some tracks I will definitely return to. Can appreciate the change in the 2nd half of the album though. I'd give this a 7 if I could.
1) One Nation Under a Groove: Absolute classic track
2) Groovalleigance: More relaxed but still funk flows.
3) Who says a funk band can't play rock?: Nice riff and flow, does what the track is called
4) Not attempting title: Quite chaotic, the fear of being eaten by a sandwich, fried ice cream is a reality
5) Into You: More funky and relaxed, like this one.
6) Cholly: Nothing to note.
7) Maggotbrain: back to the chill
8) Lunchmeatphobia: heavier rock here, gives a nice break.
9) PE Squad/Doo Doo Chasers: Pretty nice instrumentals to end off the album.
While there are some classic tracks here (mainly the title track) and I did enjoy the chaos and randomness of some tracks, for me a lot of it sort of mixes into one and that I can't distinguish between tracks, but I like what I heard.
Already know and love this album, highlights are Time to Pretend, The Handshake and Future Reflections. Whilst I don't think this is the best MGMT album, I still holds a place in my heart for nostalgia alone.
Ok so a little difficult for me, I only really enjoyed the singles and popular tracks off this album, alongside the last track 'Listen' so I probably wouldn't recommend the album nor listen to it again. Just didn't really click for me.
Even though most of these are covers, I felt every single one. They all give off their own sound and really make you feel when Otis sings. Top tier.
I mean it's just this album, probably one of if not my favourite album, wonder what I'll rate it?
I suppose I can see the appeal but this album did nothing for me and honestly wanted it to be over after the first 30 minutes. Too long, and the songs all blurred into one for me, but there were a few highlights to keep it being a complete waste of time.
Another one where the style is so strong that everyone of their songs sounded the same, but I can appreciate how obvious the style is. Maybe I'll like this more in the future after a few more listens.
Nice taste to classic 90's rock with its own spin. favourite is probably 'Is She Weird' and will definitely listen to this album again in the near future.
Honestly after the first 30 seconds of this I thought I was going to hate this, but the album grew on me quite a bit and I even enjoyed most of it.
I mean the cover says it all
Finally. Also a Smiths album I much preferred over Meat is Murder, just flowed better as an album personally.
It's alright, but I don't see anything special to make it the best selling salsa record OF ALL TIME. It felt more like music you'd here whilst holiday in a cafe at night. Maybe I'm just not a salsa fan.
Really like this one, nice beats and feels more like my type of hip-hop. Also liked most of the social messages, even if some of them did feel a little preachy after an hour.
Any David Bowie album is cheating for this. Whilst I do love this album, I can't give it a 5 as it has fewer tracks then usual and there are 1 or two track on here (mainly Wild is the Wind) that aren't as strong as the rest of the album.
9Interesting enough but some of the samples or covers or whatever you'd call them were fucking awful.
Could sense some Bowie-ism in here, overall enjoyed and will add some songs to regular listens. Album cover helps too ;)
This week has just been classic after classic, a 4 is a minimum in this scenario.
Not my favourite Beatles album, but an undeniable classic worthy of 5 stars.
Nice chill sounds to get into, may need a relisten for any of them to stick though. Standouts were Astral Weeks and Madame George. 6/10
Banging Jazz, and the history behind this album is really interesting too
Absolutely great, Where will the children play? is a great opener, Wild World has such a great energy. Feels melancholic but celebratory at the same time, like optimistic pessimism. 9/10
I don't understand a lot of people giving this a 1. Sure, not every song stood out to me here but it felt lyrically unique and I know I'll return to a few of these. The Shining is my favourite. 7/10
