1001 Albums Summary

Overall solid album. Though it contained many of the classic RHCP songs that I knew from the radio, it's not an album that I'd put on from start to finish. Besides those poppier radio-friendly tracks and a few of the classic-style hard funk tracks later on, the remaining tracks were pretty forgettable. Could have been a really tight, short album maybe.

The album has a particular 2000's sound to it. It's clear why Coldplay rose above the rest of the similar bands at the time. I especially appreciate that many of the songs have a really fantastic and moving coda, growing beyond the simple verse->chorus->repeat schematic. Overall a really strong album with numerous hits and a solid flow with very few weak moments. Worth listening to from start to finish. Ending with "Everything's not lost" was a real highlight.

Peak crunchy guitar Radiohead

First time listening to a full album by the cure, really enjoyed the variety of styles that still held together as a cohesive album. Pictures of you was a real highlight. 4.5 stars.

Absolute classic

Fucking sick. They rock the simple riffs to the shredding solos to the ballads. From a songwriting perspective, Black Sabbath has some really unique bridges and outros.

A couple huge hits, some oddly aggressive lyrics, many tasty licks. Not bad.

The penultimate rock band, plus really solid production value to boot. While the first disc alone puts it on the all time greats, the second disc was more subdued rock that held up against and surely influenced some of the best indie rock of the recent years.

This is why I signed up for the album a day club--to discover different types of music that I wasn't familiar about and learning about how they fit into the story of their genre. I enjoyed this one immensely.
