Have never even heard of this band before. First impressions of songs 1. Learned that "Pretty Green" that I knew by Mark Ronson and Santigold is a cover - who knew?! 2. "Monday" - kind of reminds me of Fountains of Wayne lol 3. "But I'm Different Now" - like the intro, but I'm thinking I just don't like this guys voice that much but good song 4. "Set the House Ablaze" - the guitar riff intro sounds linkin park-y; i don't like the talking as much it's hard to understand 5. "Start!" - the horns I like. this sounds very british to me 6. "That's Entertainment" - meh feels fake deep but it's fine 7. "Dream Time" - also fine 8. "Man in the Corner Shop" - these are really sounding kind of all the same to me 9. "Music for the Last Couple" - looong intro, I don't get this song at all 10. "Boy About Town" - this is a little more upbeat and catchy 11. "Scrape Away" - a nice cap for the album Thinking about how many albums on this list are going to be white men that kind of sound the same to me? Shocked to learn this band had 18 consecutive top 40 singles in the UK with "that's entertainment" being one of the best-selling import singles of all time in the UK as of 2007 New album of the day - Ari Lennox "age/sex/location"
I love covers and already know a few songs from this album 1. The man comes around - reminds me of a bright eyes song 2. Hurt - great song and I remember this music video 3. Give my love to Rose - sweet classic country sound 4. Bridge under troubled water - i just love a good cover; the swells are nice 5. I hung my head - I love this one and didn’t realize it was a classic till now 6. First time ever I saw your face - a little sappy and slow 7. Personal Jesus - also didn’t realize this was a cover till recently 8. In my life - never heard this before but love the original and this version 9. Sam Hall - I like the funny songs they remind me of camp 10. Danny boy - it’s fine but i think better original 11. Desperado - a classic 12. I’m so lonesome I could cry - not my fave version 13. Tear stained letter - boppy I like the piano 14. Streets of Laredo - fine nothing special to me 15. We’ll meet again - a nice one to end on
I actually had this album growing up! I forgot how long the songs are and didn’t realize it was a “punk rock opera” I’d probably give it a 3.75 but will rate it a 4
Loved loved loved. Her voice and range is so beautiful the harmonies are gorgeous and there were a few songs I recognized as samples but didn’t realize they were her
yes sir no sir reminds me of some of montreal songs - talk/singing voice is really similar. it's a catchy album but it's sooo british. but not bad
Not bad but ended up using it as background music while I shopped online. A little forgettable
Fine not my fave 2.5 stars
Just ok, some catchy tunes in there but not a real standout to me
Not for me - I'm sure it was groundbreaking for the time but sounds all the same to me
Eminem was really funny back in the day
Started to grow on me about a third of the way through. Feels familiar and comfy in a way. Real rating would probably be 3.5
