4.2 This album is my definition of “fine” - where genuine talent and artistry can be admired but not particularly enjoyed. I did not enjoy the cover of “Bye Bye Love” - I guess during this Art was doing Catch-22, a movie I love, and it feels like he’s checked out here. Standout Track: “Cecilia”
This album just wasn’t for me
4.75 What a wonderful album. Sonically pleasing, the instrumentation is varied and unexpected. Standout track: Take Me To the River is an obvious choice but Thank You For Sending Me An Angel is one of the best album openers of all time
4.2/5 What a fun album! Right out of the gate with Shining Star this album has you groovin. At 39 minutes this is all killer no filler. Standout Track: I absolutely loved the hell out of “Yearnin, Learnin” with some dynamite horns and catch lyrics
4.0/5 The Gershwin’s write smart, playful and inventive lyrics. This is not my favorite collection of Ella songs, but her voice is a knockout. Standout Track: Nice Work if You Can Get It is a classic but Fascinating Rhythm was a hit for me that I was unfamiliar with
3.8/ The upbeat tracks were ok but I didn’t love the slower songs. His voice is incredible, but this album didn’t hit me like I wanted
Not for me. The mix of music styles was interesting and I’m sure fairly novel at the time, but this didn’t hit for me.
4.3 Loved this album. Really entertaining throughout, with a bunch of Queen I wasn’t previously familiar with.
4.75 Had a blast with this album- really love the psych-rock mixed with folk/country-rock sound Standout Track: Broken Arrow is a fantastic closer!
4.8 This album whipped. Best of what I’ve heard so far!
4.6/5 Such a great album - the vocal stylings of the three leads are incredibly original and match arrangements that are fun and hard to predict. My favorite DP album, for sure
4.5/5 - Another really great album through and through. Too much focus on sax, and it really feels like McCartney was going for some Steely Dan vibes or that the Wings project was Steely Dan influenced. Standout track is "Jet" - but "Let Me Roll It" is a personal favorite - such a banger.
One of my all time favorite albums. Hypnotic indie rock album full of outstanding songs. This song was formative, and I kick myself for not ever trying to see her live back then. Standout track: "You Said Something" is one of the greatest love songs ever written.
3.8/5 I think Waits is a fun songwriter, but I do not really vibe with the folk-jazz-cabaret style of his music
3.0/5 I don't really know how to feel about this album. It wasn't really to my tastes, but after learning how influential it was in both India and Western audiences, I can definitely understand why it might be highly regarded. The sounds are amazing, but also foreign to my frame of reference. I will listen to this more, because I am intrigued!
3.75/5 Lots of fun tunes but the album didn’t do a ton for me
2/5 Did not vibe with this one
2.5/5 *shrug*
Take 5 is a blast. Worth the hype!
