Imagine by John Lennon

6/10 - (Didn’t Finish) Overall good. I like the mastering sound, almost grungy or like it’s in a warehouse. Some blues influence on songs. Nice songwriting, not quite my tastes.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Dec 06 2022

7/10 This album continued to surprise and entertain me as it played on. I am a fan of the sound design used throughout the album. Using distortion/overdrive on the vocals is a super interesting touch, and I like it more because The Black Keys aren’t obnoxious with it. The usage of it actually makes the songs that don’t use it stand out significantly. Gentler songs like The Only One and Too Afraid To Love You really gave this album depth, and songs like The Go Getter and Never Gonna Give You Up really emphasize some of the incredible songwriting and sound design that is going on. I thoroughly enjoyed and believe that the drumset parts are essential to this albums enjoyable nature. There is a ton of variation in grooves, some syncopated, but none jarring enough to leave you wondering where the beat is. Above all this album is great due to the things listed above, as well as the pure attitude and emotion that seems to be void in so many albums. Props to you Black Keys!

Dec 10 2022

8/10 This album is able to blend genres like rock, classical, 20s/30s era swing, and folk as well as experiment musically in a flawless way. I have known many of Queens songs but never listened to an entire album front to back. At just under 45 minutes this album flies by. Each track is not only great listening from a general consumer standpoint, but they’re also entertaining. There’s tons of musical moments in this album that surpassed my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed the seaside rendezvous, with it’s wonky sounds and orchestration. It also epitomizes the effortless style and swagger of Queen. I also enjoyed some of the effects that were played around with, like the vocal delay in The Prophet’s Song, or the phaser play in Good Company. All In all I found this to be a fantastic album and certainly one that I will revisit the majority of the songs.
