To start off with I don't know funk very well, although I have heard of Sly and the Family Stone, and wasn't quite sure what to expect. I did enjoy it, although another listen (while paying closer attention) would probably be good! Lots of progressive themes like other black funk artists from the same era. Keen to revisit.
Probably a little long and one-note for me. I don't dislike blues rock or wah-wah type sounds, but I think by 30 minutes in I had got the idea. Maybe another listen would reveal more detail, but I probably won't get back to this one for a while.
I like this sort of thing: rock, but also with a shimmering coating of noise, synth, and pedals, and intense mixing. This would definitely make a great film soundtrack, now I want to see the film.
I don't mind this indie rock style. Some influences from synth, punk, and so on. Would listen again.
What an iconic album. Brian Wilson really is a genius. I love Wikipedia's description, "A concept album but the concept is stylistic." It still sounds fresh. Fabulous.
I wasn't really sold on this at first but it got better as it went on, or at least my impression of it did. I like the energy of it, and I do like blues.
I enjoyed it, but on a first listen it feels pretty similar to a lot of other rock, honestly. It didn't jump out at me.
The good songs are good, the less interesting songs are a little dull.
I got into it more as I went along, and some of the songs are groovy, but I just don't think I'm that into country, or Elvis. I probably would listen again though. Hearing America's most famous white musician sing about how bad it is living in the ghetto was pretty funny.
I've never got into Mingus as much as some other jazz musicians, but this is definitely a great album nevertheless.
Sounds like Bill Haley and the Comets singing circus music. What even is this? Don't think I'll listen again. At best musically uninspiring.
Great album. I like psych rock. Going to need to listen to this more times to pick everything up.
Mum: We have OK Computer at home The OK Computer at home:
Good, although I probably didn’t enjoy it as much as I expected given Franklin’s colossal reputation.
I warmed up to this. I'll need to listen again though. An unusual mix of different substyles.
Funk, jazz... What's not to like?
I think I'd have to be in a particular mood to really get much out of this kind of music.
I like what I've heard of his before, so with that in mind I probably enjoyed this less than I'd expected to. A little spartan for my preferences.
It was fun but it didn’t grip me. Will listen again.
Rocks pretty hard, mostly.
The mixing of this is a bit unsettling, it feels like he's whispering in your ear. Not bad, but I think his music is something I'd have to get used to.
Pretty heavy. Didn’t grip me, but I might try it again.
Elton John if he were edgy.
Classic new wave! Great work on the keys.
Eh, it's not bad, but it feels like a lot of other hip-hop from the time. Not a style I can say I'm a massive fan of.
I liked it more as it went along. Not sure how often I would listen to this.
New wave, great!
I'd heard that this was "jazz rock," but I hadn't realised the "jazz" was smooth jazz and the "rock" was soft rock. I seem to recall hearing someone once complain that this album was "sterile," but it's soft rock, so what do you expect? Great album.
Funky stuff. 'Nuff said.
Feels very dated. A few hits, but even those feel like the shallow side of new wave. I like new wave, but this is hardly the best it had to offer.
I can never seem to get into OG hip-hop. I think it's just me. Maybe I have to come back and listen more actively.
Nice atmospheric post-punk, good.
Not usually a huge fan of punk, but enjoyed this more than I was expecting to.
Forgettable, honestly.
Fun and rather campy new wave sound.
