"ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION"...this album is frigging amazing. It makes me want to smoke pot while watching a 100-gallon saltwater fish tank in a dark room. Since I don't smoke pot or own a fish tank...4 stars.
There is a 5 star album in there somewhere, but George with all due respect, everything you record doesn't have to go on the LP or in this case LPs. I had to go back and check and this originally came out as a triple album, seriously? The fat to trim off of this is easily identifiable. I don't claim to be a professional music producer, but no album needs 4 instrumental jams. Several all-time classics surrounded by a bunch of ideas not songs (I Dig Love), Calliope music (It's Johnny's Birthday, WTF?), and the aforementioned instrumentals.
The question I have to ask myself is, am I too old to relate to this music in any way? The answer is probably yes. On first listen (and most likely only) it seems like the album tries so hard to bounce between musical genres it doesn't land in any. What will Apple Music say, "You may also like", after I listen to this? - 2 stars
