Reggatta De Blanc
The Policei honestly wasn't expecting too much and because of that ngl it gave a lot. loved the rock steady and funk influences. did not expect that from "commercial classic rock" at all

nothing too special but fun and tasteful
loved the atmosphere, instrumentation, and afrocentric styles. my only notable critique is that every track dragged on for longer than necessary.
simply amazing. the fact that he can flow for an entire minute before the beat kicks in just shows how he works a mic. i love how he went back to boom bap roots all the way in the late 00’s, yet the production still completely holds up. also the funk and jazz fusion UGH
no hate, i just think it wasn’t really my jam. certain songs did get me really entranced, but other ones just... kinda were there? like the band obviously has amazing chops and a great sense of theory, but there wasn’t much variety from song to song and the length alone made the album drag pretty quickly. idk maybe i just needed to be in a different mood :(
honestly wasn’t expecting much but ended up enjoying the sound! the avant-garde take on what was otherwise a pretty traditional formula at this point was very refreshing.
it was ok. nothing too ambitious but it never overstayed its welcome. always glad to hear blues influence throughout!
i appreciate the fact that they dabbled in so many genres but this doesn’t absolve from the fact that some of it just turned out sounding kinda goofy lmao
fun and well produced. just not for me.
kind of worn out of this style but i know they were pioneers of said style so points for that. i did like the psychedelic parts and the small portions of singer/songwriter and bluegrass piqued my interest.
even though it wasn’t the most innovative or technically advanced, i enjoyed the simple vibe it gave off.
incredible front to back. their artistic expression truly bled thru the music
it really hurts to give stevie anything less than a five. and it was so close to being a five too. i just think certain tracks dragged on a lil too long and overall, there was very little coherence between them. other than that tho ABSOLUTELY FIRE THIS MAN FUCKIN B R E A T H E S MUSIC
WHERE HAS THIS ABSOLUTE QUEEN BEEN ALL MY LIFE
for some reason couldn’t stand it the first time i listened. second time around was honestly lovely. super ahead of its time sonically, and somehow loyal and futuristic to its time, at the same time, instrumentally. so glad i gave it a second listen after all this time.
this rock ROCKED !!!
funky folksy and fmixolydian fmelodiessss
