10/10 no notes needed, a trip down memory lane and just an absolutely incredible album.
Not usually going out of my way to listen to jazz but it's always good to hear such influential music. The usage of different time signatures is really neat. The opener, Blue Rondo à la Turk, has some of the more interesting bits for me and is the highlight of the album for me. Strange Meadow Lark is super chilled out, the kind of music you listen next to a fireplace with a robe and a glass of bourbon while it rains outside. I have DEFINITELY heard Take Five somewhere before. Such a smooth piece, I can see why it's seen as massively influential in the history of music. Excellent solo work by Paul Desmond on the saxophone and Joe Morello on the drums.
It's an okay album but a lot of the ideas they hit were done better by Yes and Billy Joel in my opinion. I did really enjoy Asylum and Hide In Your Shell, though.
It's difficult to beat Jimi Hendrix. The greatest to ever touch a guitar.
More of a 3.5. Sonically good but doesn't last in the memory.
