Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club
Jul 12 2023

I enjoyed it; it was a very peaceful album and definitely something I wouldn't have listened to on my own accord. Just nice Latino music, a genre that I have not explored that much (sorry, Mom). I can totally see this played at a coffee shop in Cuba; god knows they have good coffee over there. 8.5/10

Disintegration by The Cure
Jul 13 2023

Look, I had no idea what to expect from it. Plainsong started off really well, and I thought, "hell yeah, man, this is really up my alley," but nothing more really happened after that. It sounds good and all, but I can't see myself listening to this again. It's not the music's fault. I'm sure all the sounds worked really hard to sound good (and I guess the band played those sounds, mmm). It's not you; it's me. I can't see myself going on with my day-to-day life listening to this, which is how I listen to most music. I can chalk it up to me not being in the "right" mood for it, but what mood do I have to be in for this? I like my sad music to be really sad, so it doesn't fit there. It's not heavy enough for me; I can't see myself just chilling out to this. It makes me feel... nothing? Hard to do when it's music, but I can't go either way. This is like that pizza topping that you don't mind if it's at a party, but are you ever going to eat it on your own accord? That's the best way I can describe it. It does nothing to me, which is even more strange since this does seem like something I like. I expected myself to like this album based on what I've heard, but nothing. There's no cure for this; it's just me.

Doolittle by Pixies

I can't tell if this is embarrassing, but doing this challenge has gotten me to stay up every night to see what new album I'm listening to tomorrow. I like its suspense, and the fact that it could be anything adds to that. Now, I was bound to relisten to an album I'd already checked out, which could be good or bad depending on my mood. Once Doolittle showed up as the next album I had to hear, I just got excited. I've listened to this album many times, and its replay value is immense. I could spend all day only listening to this album and not get sick of it. It's a reliable album; it's like grilled cheese. Don't know what to eat? Grilled cheese. Grilled cheese is fucking amazing, it's so simple, but it comes together so well that it just makes you ask, "I sure do want another grilled cheese.". The songs on this album are so short and straightforward, yet they won't leave your head. You never really ask yourself, "Oh my god, how did they make this" but you don't eat grilled cheese for the complexity of it all, do you? I don't know how you can hate this album. How can you listen to Debaser without needing to dance to it? I need help to make a top 5 song on this album. 90% of the songs are 10/10s in my book, and the sounds are so fucking good. The singing, production, and instruments are consistent in this album. There's no dud in here. It ranges from really solid to 10/10 songs. If your entire album is that, you have a classic on your hands. Now excuse me, I'm going to listen to Mr. Grieves while making a grilled cheese.

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Jul 18 2023

Another of those cases where I wanted to listen to this, but for whatever reason, I have yet to (I'm sure this will never happen again on this list!). It's relaxing to put on and puts you in the zone. I like to play Tetris when listening to a new album, which gets me in the zone for the game. It's upbeat enough to energize me, yet it's peaceful to listen to. I understand why this album has a large appeal, and I'm one of those people. Something I will be adding to my "dance" playlist. One of those albums that you can relisten to as much as you can, and I'm sure my rating will only go up the more I do that! 8.5/10
