Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Sep 20 2023

For all the misogyny-tinged sneering about Ironic’s lyrics, Jagged Little Pill still very much stands up as a fantastic album on a number of different levels: chiefly as an invective against the way men often blithely mistreat women, but also musically and lyrically (with Not the Doctor being an absolute standout track on that front). An enduring album that was ahead of its time in managing to simultaneously be so righteously angry and wildly commercially successful

Blur by Blur
Sep 21 2023

One thing I can certainly say in favour of this album is that it’s very eclectic and unpredictable. It doesn’t ‘do it’ for me but is clearly a highly accomplished album

Ace of Spades by Motörhead
Sep 26 2023

Can see how it broke new ground and influenced the next decade or two of speed metal. Lyrically a little problematic at times, LOL, but Lemmy’s distinctive delivery is magnetic and the band’s breakneck pace is unrelenting

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Oct 03 2023

Listen, if you’re not bouncing around to this, you might as well accept that music isn’t your thing. Joyful arrangements and awesome musicianship

Immigrés by Youssou N'Dour
Oct 04 2023

Unfamiliar territory for me, so it’s not something I can critique in any way other than to say that I found it very enjoyable and easy to listen to on a visceral level. Will definitely be revisiting

Basket of Light by Pentangle
Oct 05 2023

I’m rather cheating with this one, as this is already a favourite album of mine. Imbued with dark magic, this wonderful collection of harmonic songs marrying the ancient and modern is delivered with remarkable artistry by the twinning guitars of Renbourn and Jansch and one of British Folk Music’s very finest voices

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Oct 09 2023

Not many stone cold Credence classics on this one beyond Bad Moon Rising but it’s a cracking album nonetheless characterised by Fogerty’s drawling vocals, languid guitar playing and typically upbeat songwriting

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Oct 10 2023

Straight-up authentic blues from one of the greatest to ever do it
